I can come up with ideas, but I lack the skills to make some things happen.
I cannot write programs, I am not a coder or a dev, and I'm not really sure what it takes to get certain things done. This is why I am offering up a 500+ SBD bounty to anyone who can get this job done. For maximum exposure, I'm also tagging this in the #steemgigs category.
THE ISSUE
Let's face it, it can be really hard to find certain posts on steemit. The post history of some users is like a bottomless pit. Newer users really have no idea about the things that happened before they arrived, and locating certain posts becomes like a "Where's Waldo" game that some people never win.
In a lot of ways, it is very hard to even get to know another user. Their ideas and creations quickly get buried and for the most part we only get exposed to whatever topics or posts they are currently posting or have posted in the recent past.
THE IDEA THAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE BECOME REALITY
Eventually, I would like to see this become a feature on steemit itself. For now, though, perhaps it just needs to become another off-site resource. Either way, I'll willing to pay to get it done.
Imagine that you could select a username and then choose a tag. When you select the particular tag for a username, every post that user ever made in that tag would show up in order.

If this tag idea becomes implemented on steemit, though, or if we are able to provide an off-site resource, then the user could just select my username and click on the "garden" tag. Instantly, every post I've ever made using that tag would be instantly available for them to explore. Now, rather than concluding "Maybe this guy is not such a gardener," they will conclude, "Cool, what an interesting gardener with some great gardening posts!" Can you see the difference?

One thing your implementation lacks is the ability to see which tags an author has used. Having to guess, makes it harder to explore new unknown sides of an author.

Sure.
I use Flask for the backend which queries a mongo database (the steemdata one), so I don't have to parse the blockchain; this is primarily what makes the application so performant.
The downside is that it's not fully updated, but about an hour behind steemit.com.
Other than that, it's really just a very basic web-application.

Your tool searches through all posts ever made, while on Steemnow.com I use only the last 100 posts at this moment. Maybe you can add the payout and the number of upvotes as well.

Good job! I would suggest ordering the tags by frequency of use. Since you have done the backend work already, let me know if you would appreciate some help with styling and mobile optimization, so you don't have to do everything on your own.

Actually, I couldn't sleep, so I implemented a very inefficient version of what you're talking about.
It's quite a bit slower than the previous version, but I think it's worth it; at least until I get time to implement a better one.

If you add this after all other CSS, it should work well on mobile devices. Also, I changed the image sizes, so they all have the same width, and get cropped at the bottom to preserve the ratio. I think, the overall look is cleaner that way.
The CSS looks a little weird at some places, because for testing in Firebug etc. I had to cancel out the existing CSS at some places.
Tested on Chrome and Firefox and my HTC's and Samsung mobiles.

A little bug I found: The first (most frequent) tag shows a wrong amount of posts (times 2 for my account and your account). However, I've seen also seen other differences than the factor 2.
On the subsequent tags it seems to be correct in most cases...there are some differences as well sometimes. I figured this might be caused by authors changing their tags afterwards, but I can't tell for sure.

That would be a great tool. It'd also be nice to search, say you like darts, to be able to search all users that have mentioned darts, and even go further and maybe be able to search for a range of upvotes. Not saying posts about darts with no upvotes doesn't have good content, but it's still be nice to be able to search for posts about darts that have received over $10 in upvotes. Something's big like that. Really fine tune searching for party culprit things. Just a thought. Have a great Sunday!

As a content creator and contributor to the steemit community, I really support this. However, I think there are some fundamental issues that need a good looking at. I think that it's reasonable to have to build up a reputation in order to earn more in steemit. At the same time, I think that the system buries legitimately good articles and content under more seasoned and more invested individuals. And hey, that's totally understandable! However, it can be very discouraging for new users. Frustrating even. Take this for an example.
@mysterymerr was a friend that I donated my design services to. She spent a deal of time working on her introduction post. She wanted to do blogging on makeup and special effects content. She posted a very well written introduction post, and it made 20.00 SBD, which she managed to get maybe 10.00, less actually because of all the fees. Meanwhile, other people were able to blog in introduce yourself and earn hundreds because they knew the right people. It was very discouraging. The last straw for her was when she posted one more time and only made 0.03 sbd. She quit after that, and I don't think she's coming back.
Now, I know what you guys are thinking. Who cares right? She should have kept posting, earned her following and built up from there.
If you say that, you have an extremely solid point. However, I'm in the business of design. I've studied user experience design.
So while @mysterymerr is just one person who didn't do well, she represents a margin of potential newcomers. Her experience is what a lot of other newcomers are experiencing. It's something that we have to assume.
Now, while there may be something wrong with steemit's big picture, an even bigger issue present. The expectations are not correctly set A lot of these promotional materials, and word by mouth promotes steemit as a life changing platform. Step 1: Post, Step 2: ??? Step 3: The moon.
This may be true for a lot of people on the platform, but it is not true for everyone. The expectations are not correct. And thusly, newcomers will come aboard, and quickly realize that earning lots of money using steemit is actually bigger than just posting.
It's about promoting yourself, networking, building a following.
I'd say, that a good way to help counteract this is by finding new ways to spotlight content, more areas to allow good content to reach the light of day. If that were to happen, expectations could be set to reflect the active promotional materials.
Steemit is very much a huge ocean of content. Someone who is new and writes a post or contributes something worthwhile should be able to earn the same as someone who's been here forever, who doesn't actively post helpful or interesting content.
My 2 cents.
ONE HUNDRED PERCENT AGREE!! And yes, I shouted that. I think if this issue isn't addressed, it will push a lot of users away. We're in a world that's so impatient, and they want instant rewards; meaning if they feel their article was really good, and they didn't get rewarded, they'll go elsewhere. That way they'll get their reward, even if it's just in the form of praise and kindness from their fans, friends etc. It's not always about the financial reward. I've found quite a few old posts that hardly had any reward, and were in fact very helpful and interesting articles. I then look for more of their articles, and see they haven't posted in months. And I've found quite a few like that. The old saying 'Cream rises to the top' comes to mind, but maybe there's just too much cream, and some of it just has no room to get to the top.

Hey thanks for giving me feedback, I don't think there is any way for me to include resteemed posts as that is not part of the blockchain and only steemit feature. For your points #1 and #2:
#1. Could you give me more details about this, I tried looking at some pages on AskSteem and didn't find any errors in the JS console, I did find errors on Steemit after clicking the link but those appear regardless of being directed there by AskSteem.
#2. The bottom of search results pages do contain buttons for moving the next and previous page which should be enough for non-technical users to move between pages, I really don't see it as likely that someone would need to jump from for example page 1 to page 5:

#1. Just search something using your tool, open the console in the browser and click any link from results - you should see several errors in the console.

Seems to me one of the tools lacking on Steemit is a way to organize content better. Not only is what you suggest an excellent idea, but from what little I understand about coding, it would not be super hard to implement if it were done as an extension of organizing tags better.
Most web sites with a lot of changing content have a "tag cloud" somewhere. Whereas Steemit does list tags on some pages, it's really not that well organized. Maybe "communities" will fix this? I don't know. I just wish we had more "fixed" top level and secondary level tags... for example, we might have "cryptocurrencies" as a top level tag, then "bitcoin," "steem," "ethereum" as secondary level tags... it makes browsing by interest FAR easier.
Getting back to your specific suggestion... categories are basically "disguised searches" that return specific results. I don't think it would be horribly difficult to add a search qualifier called (for example) "&user=papa-pepper" as a user option... be it from your profile page, or from a general category page.
Organizing tags better would also make it easier when you're creating a post and wondering whether a tag you're using actually exists, already... especially if the developers to make it so there were a "hot pre-fill" (lots of sites use that) you start adding tags.

This seems like a good idea. On esteem app there is already a search feature to "search by tags" and "search by user".
Imo these two can be merged. For example, first user selects "username" and then selects "tag" and that will fetch details , that shouldn't be hard I guess.

That's great, but it's still lacking the ability to organize things.
I think besides finding all the posts an user made with a certain tag, it would be nice to have the option to sort it as well.
For example:
And I know Steemit is only like a year old, but it would be nice to also be able choose if you only want to see posts from the last week, last month, last three months, last year.
I might add some more sorting options in the future, although it can already filter by date range.

Personally, I was looking for a way to pull up only posts from a specific user that they posted in a specific tags, sorted from newest to oldest.

I could do a basic version of this, wouldn't want to take 500sbd from you, probably the upvotes would be enough of an incentive :-)
My idea would be for a landing page to take a user name, then return a list of their top tags and posts by upvote count and reward total. It would either use the steem api or one of the blockchain databases. We'd need to get in touch with whoever manages them to ensure that whatever solution we made would not put too much strain on their system.
Also happy to work with someone - technically my idea would be a simple php landing page with bootstrap, which either queries a database with sql/ similar or the api with javascript - like a more advanced version of my project http://steemforthe.win

This is defintely a good idea and will help archive steemit posts and make them easier to find. This will enhance the user experience at Steemit. Just like you, it is something beyond me as I do not know coding. My only assistance is to resteem this post.

"Profile" for each user where they can choose to pin certain tags/posts, maybe an in depth description and automatic photo album.
The auto photo album would require another feature for steemit. Tagging photos with their rights/identifiers. Could allow mass categorization of photos.

I've got a couple of thoughts/suggestions in the meantime. And if anyone out there has better ideas for a temporary solution, or have some thoughts on how to take this idea and make it a little smoother, please add to this reply.

My first suggestion is - and trust me, this is a kind of clunky solution, not elegant at all, but will work - is to include our own tags in the body of our posts and submissions.
It's voluntary. It's clumsy. It takes some effort. And it's not indexing. It is, however, a way to be found in conjunction with a particular topic. It would work along these lines:
Let's say you called this "project index". You read my post, wanted to go back and read it again without putting a lot of effort into it, and maybe wanted to read responses I posted elsewhere about the idea.
If I wanted to be part of this, I would include #project-index-joanroberts somewhere in my response or submission. I would also include the tag: #project-index for those who would like to find everything on this topic.
This is just one thought among what I'm sure will be many suggestions to come. I'm going to go through the responses here to see what others think. Since I haven't done that yet, apologies to those who have already come up with this idea. BTW, don't even know this will work even for those who would like to participate.
Well, that's my two cents. Literally and figuratively. I don't write code or program, either.
And here's a free suggestion: those of you who do write code and do programming getcher group going on and open source this or make it an invitational group, whatever works for y'all, and divide the proceeds by whatever weight you assign to ideas and tasks.

Originality and putting the effort in it takes to write your own submissions instead of a completely or largely copy-and-paste job merits a nod. I may be new, but I respect and acknowledge authorship.
I propose following tags also like reddit in addition to people. We will select several tags that are interesting to us. Steemit will show curated posts of those tags.. if we also follow the person as well as the tag that post can be scored even more.. curation algorithms can be connected to machine learning in the future..
As the reward pool is keeping decease. And there are more user in steemit and more peopl vote recently after Hf19. I think we can develop some bot to stop these people, like auto flag all the people keeping voting? Or flag the new user or whale to make the community more health? As if there are no limit on new user or whale vote, the payout will drop very fast...

The good thing about decentralized technology is that the market decides how and what it will become :)

The feature that @papa-pepper talked about is a nice one but will only do magic of implemented in Steemit or some other app like esteem or busy.org. Creating a seperate tool may not help a lot. Anyways, there is an API from esteem developer @good-karma which i think is a perfect tool to start the project. Happy Steeming.....

it might be a dead end , because people choose other people and enjoy all their sharings or people enjoy one particular subject and they find it in the trending list ... i dont think it is that complicated ..and trying to find a solution on this type of search can be tricky because we will be more and more people on Steemit and even if we do a more simple search , the new posts will still be ahead and the higher scores too ...otherwise , the whole game needs to be changed and i dont think the big whales will be thrilled by this clever and fair idea .
I just want to be able to get more info on particular users on specific subjects in an easier way. We will see what happens. Thanks!

There is still not such a thing available however if you go to http://www.asksteem.com and put "@username" "#hashtag", it will narrow it down quite good nearly 90%.
But still you can find what you are looking for in a matter of seconds.

I've already made a prototype on this. I'm gonna make it live once I've successfully synced with Steem blockchain with the mapped posts and tags. (Still syncing...) :)

I resteemed you, but i would rather see a column on the right side of everybodys blog side, containing every tag they ever used, so you can click on it and filter the posts this way. There are many other sites using this tag column already. I think i saw one on reddit recently.

Great idea! With a front end developer this could become a reality in a month or so. One issue will be speed since someone like you(@papa-pepper) has 100s of blogs to go through. To improve the speed you could get a backend dev.
Overall technology wise I'd recommend going with a JavaScript front end and working on a Spring based backend after the initial launch. I'd usually be up to help but I'm getting married in a month and then taking a one month vacation so I couldn't do anything until September. Best of luck though! I'd be more than happy to lend a hand picking technologies or reviewing potential coders githubs if needed.

One Thing I've noticed is that, I'm able to bring in thousands of readers to my posts, but hardly any of them have Steemit accounts. They are not able to up vote.

I received only a handful of up votes. I'm going to have to try and bring a portion of my audience from other social networking platforms to Steem. That would solve the problem a bit.
At least steemit account are free!
