The Brit List - April 2021

in #hive4 years ago (edited)

I produce this list using a Python scriptqueried for accounts that had UK, Britain, England, Wales, Scotland and other terms in their location metadata. That uncovered lots I did not previously know about who are active. Some are only voting, but many are posting. I have not worked out what regions some of them fall into, but if they want to let me know I will update for next month. If you use multiple accounts I can consolidate those, but the count ought to be of actual people., but that requires a text file of user names. Using @hivesql I

I did more tweaking of my queries this time to find more people. I also made use of a list of accounts that were compromised some time ago and have been voting up some spam posts. Anyone with a # against their name needs to look at their account activity and probably change their keys.

Hive Vote.I am always looking for people to add. The @teamuksupport Discord community have helped a lot. If you know any of the inactive people then maybe talk to them about automating their votes with

Previous editions:

There is another nice increase this month. I expect the rising HIVE price encouraged some people to post again, but whenever you earn it you benefit in the long term.

Those listed first are actively posting or commenting. Others are just voting (probably automatic) and others are totally inactive, but have been active since Hive started.

Damn, we need more of a toehold in Norn Iron!

Yeah, @silverstackeruk is doing his best. Maybe an excursion when we're allowed out to play?

Rent a hive bus! Hehe :0)

Rent? We'll steal one, have you not watched Thelma and Louise???

Yesss! Like Boris's battle bus, except filled with much, much less ineptitude and jaw-flapping!

I'll make the sandwiches, you bring a thermos and tbh if we are going out to play, someone needs to bring a ball.

I only found the second one recently. I would think there have to be more.

Hello @steevc,

Thanks for the update.
I think it's safe to put me as "somewhere in the UK" too:), as I'll be doing continuous cruising around the UK canals, but I've left Philippines for good.
Thank you so much!
Have a great day.

Cool. That will update for next time. Friends of mine are having a canal boat built and should be cruising fairly soon. Seems like a nice life.

Cheers for the update for next post. It's a proper adventure on the boats! We've just been back 2 weeks now and since our 10 day quarantine, we've done 5 locks. Definitely getting the hang of it and it's nice to be back in the UK:)

Wow that's exciting, are you following Foxes Afloat on You Tube ?
Best wishes with the cruising :-)

Yes! Foxes Afloat is my fav so far!
Yes, exciting and we're learning all the ropes :)
Good to be back in the UK!

Wow! Your extra efforts have certainly paid dividends. That list is looking a lot chunkier than usual Hopefully, when some of those marked inactive get the ping, they will check this post, take a look around and see that Hive is evolving in to something bigger and better than they may have anticipated.

Speaking of predictions, mine is that the 'Brit List' will develop somewhat of an exponential curve with regard to numbers as we move further in to 2021.

When meet-ups, 'kick in' again, I think we will begin to see a degree of momentum that surpasses expectations and surprises many here.

The future is looking incredibly bright and much of the frostbite sustained in that long crypto-winter is beginning to be replaced with something far more akin to optimism.

I'm pleased with progress. I wonder at what point it will become too big to manage. For now I hope it will be useful for those looking to organise meetups. I am happy to publicise those on these posts.

!ENGAGE 20

That's a fantastic idea and a great use of the Brit List post. I notice a recurring scenario around posts relaying the details of a meetup after it has has happened, wherever it may be in the world, those in the comment section are often bemoaning the fact they were unaware of the meetup and invariably stating that they would have been there, had they only known.

Obviously Covid has taken a huge toll on any of us taking 'Hive on the road', so to speak but I believe more meetups, particularly those with a little structure (and maybe an educational aspect) have an enormous knock on effect to our sense of community 'on-chain'.

They can foster friendships, ideas, projects and who knows what else, so anything that publicises these gatherings of passionate Hive community members is an amazing thing.

If it does at some stage become too big to handle, and in many ways, that is the best possible scenario for immediately apparent reasons, I guess that's where the idea of 'community' comes in to it's own. 😎🚀

to the hiiiive enginnnee....

is this a relative new feature? Is meant to trigger a bot command?

Excellent stuff, I am indeed located in the NW UK in a village just on the outskirts of Sunny Blackpool

Cool. Not sure I've ever been to Blackpool. It's sunny in Bedfordshire today.

Hello to the UK gang!

Yewww! Cool project, I’m actually not based in the UK anymore so I’m going to have to change my location but I still have a strong affinity with the south west ❤️

No problem. Should I put you in the expats?

Hi @steevc

I'm new to hive and @zo3d suggested that I join #teamuk and the britlist.

Here's a link to my #introduceyourself blog https://peakd.com/introduceyourself/@l0tti3/brit-in-south-africa

So good to meet you!

Cool. I have added you for next month's list as an expat. We are close to 200 active people on the list now. I have found a lot more since I started compiling it.

Have fun.

That is looking very good 🙂.
These are inactive at present, but maybe worth adding to the list:
@maxrwolfe (Midlands) @boogieboa (London)

Cheers. Interesting that peakd says the first one was last active in 1970! We need to do what we can to encourage people to come back. There are loads of inactive accounts.

!ENGAGE 20

the first one was last active in 1970!

Haha - I don't think he was born or even thought of then, his parents would only have been youngsters! One is busy at University, the other found it a headwreck, although I think he got quite good rewards, even in those days. Meetups will help, I think.

Haha I think after 51 years we must accept defeat and declare him 'lost at sea!'

I actually believe that the tags in this post may have an effect at bringing those who have gone AWOL back in to the fold. Many people return after logging in to check their account or seeing a mention on Discord that intrigues them.

A growing, active community on home soil may be just the thing to renew confidence or restore vigour. This coupled with a Hive price of somewhere between the $1 - $2 range which is becoming almost an inevitability when you look at some of the unfolding projects here, may well have a restorative effect on both bringing back these people and attracting a whole lot more Brits to the community.

Hi @steevc, Thank you for participating in the #teamuk curated tag. We have upvoted your quality content. For more information visit our discord https://discord.gg/8CVx2Am

Great to see a nice increase in the uset list Steve.

Do you think it's worthwhile to do a one time spam to the active users latest post to make them aware of this list?

I would hope people will see they have been mentioned. I am reluctant to spam them, but it's a possibility. Gives me an excuse to try coding that.

Not everyone uses discord or reads notifications, and some don't even engage much. If it's a one time thing, hopefully it will be ok. The worst is they will dv you, think you're used to it by now 😂

Team UK got your back!!!

Nice to see it growing! Am I right in thinking the active number has grown a little?

It is the active number I am tracking that excludes the expats. It's great that it shows 75% more than the first time I did it.

Wicked! Are you finding old inactive users are coming back slowly too??

Definitely. I run my script now and then to see who is active. Maybe then people can go out more they will have more to post about.

Ahaha this is very true, would love to meet some of yas eventually I love how we all come from different walks of life

Absobloodylutely! Meetups are amazing, the chance to meet online friends in the 'so-called' real world is epic and in my experience, not at all awkward, (I thought that might be the case).

I guarantee @nathanmars will be making the most of the chance to meetup in your part of the world once these rules are relaxed and Boris let's us come out of our bedroom!

I met Nathan in September at a meetup in the North (Halifax) his enthusiasm blew me away & his TwitterHive campaign is gaining momentum daily.

I will be attending a London meetup or 2 when I have the chance, it would be awesome to cross paths, who knows?

Take good care man and till you get out to meet Hive peeps, enjoy the journey 😎🚀👍

@steevc what type of voting constitutes being in the list? I'm puzzled that I'm not in it.

You show up as an active account. The 'voting' ones are those that are not posting or commenting, but where I see some voting. In most cases that is likely to be automated.

Oh I see, thanks for the explanation.

I could add some details of that to the next one

active-truth is Ireland I do believe

They seem keen to stay fairly anonymous. If people do not disclose their location I leave it to them if they want to be included. I am not including the Republic of Ireland in this list if that is where they are.

I have no idea which part she is in. She is very truth orientated though and quite famous.

It is up to her if she wants to be on the list.

I will let her know bud.

London and the SE for me please Steve

Updated for next time. Thanks.

what does voting mean?

It means the account is just voting and not posting. A lot of people just use one of the auto-voting services (e.g. HiveVote) so they can curate even if they are not checking on Hive.

Hi You have me down for somewhere, I live in the North :)

I've moved you for the next update. Thanks.

Thank you :)

Great to see the list growing looks like London & south-east continue to dominate hehe

It will be interesting how this list grows in the next couple of months as lockdown rules get eased and people are back to meeting people and creating more outdoor content

I hope meetups will start again soon and the list may help with that. I think I've only been to one since Hive started.

Good to see over 100 again! Quite a big jump from last month!

My efforts to query the metadata have paid off there. I've tried searching for all sorts of things as there is little consistency in what people enter as a location.

Big up the brits

Posted using Dapplr

Hive is taking over (slowly). Let me know if you find any more. Need to get your fanbase on Hive. If half your Twitter followers signed up it could make a big difference!

its so complicated.....

i got the mrs in with a bit of help from nicky harvey....

Could she be added to the list?

Sure we are in Brighton @watt.the.watt

Posted using Dapplr

Cool. Always good to add people on the list. I think we have a few people around Brighton, so maybe there can be a meetup there. I can get there by train from here.
