Living out in the country has given us many opportunities to see the night sky. There was a special lunar event yesterday, and I was lucky to have clear skies to see the moment. Spotting a lunar eclipse along with Orion's Belt along the right side of the moon was quite the sight.
We have tried to witness other events like meteor showers, but the clouds have tended to be in the area blocking the event from us. But with clear skies forming, it made it possible for us to see the blood moon lunar eclipse.

Using my new zoom lens I captured the blood moon that occurred on March 13th. A blanket of fog rolled in around the time I started taking pictures, interestingly it vanished minutes later.
I went outside during the stages, from when it first started all the way until we see the full eclipse.
About 30 minutes later we can see a little more of the moon covered.
As the moon starts to get blocked, the stars really come out. Later I learned those three stars were Orion's Belt.
During the full moon we could still see many stars, being in a rural area makes that possible. But it was amazing to see the sky just open up with stars late at night as the eclipse happened.
The moon was becoming quite red as the eclipse occurred.
And finally the full moon eclipse, it was really cool to see. And being so far out in the country it made it so much more clear and luminous in the sky. Really glad I went outside with my camera to capture the moment. And memories with my loved ones. I was worried the fog or cloud cover would block the view, but in the end it was quite the view with wide open skies. Loved the stars spotted as well when the full moon light was blocked.

Wow, those turned out really good. Not as grainy as I would have guessed. I got up around 4, but by that time it was pretty much over and I wasn't even sure where the moon was anyway. I thought it would be lower on the horizon, but I forgot we are getting closer to summer.

So true, we have planned for many sky events just to have them blocked out by clouds. so we got lucky this time.

Blood Moon is cool. I rarely go to the countryside, but when I come to the village in the summer I enjoy looking at the starry sky and thinking about these distant worlds.
Yeah there is something about being out in rural areas.. really makes you think about what is out there in the sky when you can see it.
