When I was younger, I dreamt big, like most kids do. I wanted to grow up and have a beautiful home, full of beautiful things. I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a mother and as a mother I wanted my children to have whatever they desired. A beautiful castle in a forest, would do just fine.
But the older I got, the more I realized that having things, comes with a price and not just of the monetary kind. In my early twenties, when I was living in London, in a shared house, I bought some pretty things for my room. But then the urge to travel hit and I realized that what I really craved, was having amazing experiences.
That is what I wanted to fill my life up with. So the money I made, went towards my travels, towards exploring different parts of the world. Opening my eyes up to the way in which people live all over the world, getting to experience different cultures.
Getting to explore rainforests, deserts, mountains and some of the most stunning beaches. That's what fed my soul, that made me so happy. That made me feel alive and then the more I travelled, the less I owned, the less I actually wanted. (besides books, that is.)
Having less, opened up more space for me. Space within me and space to actually do more things. Owning things, become a burden, each one, adding a little extra weight to your being. Your thoughts often wander to these things, the maintenance that they may require, the emotional baggage, that the may hold.
Having less, is freeing.
Minimalist living, is what is right for me. It allows me to live the life that I need. One where I get to park my home in nature, surrounded by mountains. Where I get to spend most of my day outside.
Everyday, my bare feet upon the earth. My hands working with the soil. Listening to the birdsong and the sound of the wind caressing the trees, that surround my home.
If I feel overwhelmed, I only need to take a short walk, where I can let everything flow out of me. Allowing me to be rejuvenated by my surroundings.
I can breathe and each breath, brings with it more space, more healing, more freedom.
Freedom is really a state of mind, with the biggest thing that imprisons us, being our thoughts. It is our thoughts that affect the way in which we live, the way in which we view ourselves and those around us. Our thoughts are what, become our reality.
No matter, what is going on around us, we choose how we respond to it. A choice, which is governed by the way in which we think.
"I think, therefore I am".
Once I began to understand that, then the world really opened up for me and I could step fully, into my role as a creator. Taking full responsibility for my life. To me, that is the ultimate freedom.
This is my response to the latest Kiss Blogging ideas, from The Minimalist Community, which included the following prompt .......
How has minimalism enabled me to have physical and mental freedom.

It's a pleasure 😍xx
What a great and inspiring story! :) I highly resonate with a lot of what you said, I haven't traveled as much as you, but I have been going on a lot of adventures in the last few years and I also try to be minimalist and not get too attached to material things.
That's really cool you've been on so many adventures around the world! I'd love to do something similar someday. :) Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you @apolymask, I'm looking forward to when you travel and share your stories with us all xxx
The more we breath for life, the more we are achieving freedom. Just like you, I was a dreamer too when I was younger, and I firmly believe that being like this helps us to move forward with a healthy mind and body. Minimalism is key. And most of all the wild heart of nature is love.
Yes wild heart, that is so important, it is what keeps us connected. Thank you @pinkchic xxx
