I've decided I quite fancy a regular job.
Frankly I could use the extra cash and I'm just plain bored updating my regular blog.... putting in extra effort to update more reguarly doesn't seem to produce anymore income anyway, and it's kind of stopped being fun, so I'm getting to thinking about what else I could do.
I don't fancy setting up another hustle, got enough going with those already, and actually I only really need 2-3 days a week of a regular job, which I kind of fancy as I like the idea of working with other people, and then 2 days to hustle, and 2 for the weekend.
Jobs shortlist...
I've based this on a combination of what I'm skilled at, what I could skill-up at and what I can stand and actually fancy doing.
It's a bit eclectic, some of them I just took from the UK government's apprenticeship list!
Having just started out volunteering at Citizens Advice, this is defo something i could do 2-3 days a week, and somewhat to my surprise there are paid positions available, not just with CA, but also advising for other charities, and further down the list I added in careers advisor, I don't really want to do that but it's something I could do again. I think this is a shoe-in, it's just a matter of waiting a few months until I've done a bit more volunteering!
Social researcher is the job I really want - but only for something I'm interested in - I would do another Masters degree, but would rather just walk into a job, I think maybe if I do some personal reading around the social inequality sort of stuff that interests me I might have a chance?
Data analysis - not my strength having done a few courses on Tableau, SQL and R so less keen on this that I was a few months back and well, AI!
Counselling and Therapy are AI proof, or at least more AI proof than many other jobs - something I'd never considered before, but I figure this would be relatively easy and well paid and there's A LOT of demand!
I'm also considering something maybe in Health and Safety - I mean once yer qualified you just go consultant and it's £200 for an hour poking around a brownfield site or a Kitchen, right?
But getting into that is the problem!
Other things I considered are maybe some kind of environmental science thing but that'd mean a degree, £20K down the pan with the OU, or something horticultural, and then there's Funeral Director, no shortage of people about to die out there!
Finally I've always quite liked the idea of working in Waste Management - there's always going to be rubbish and figuring out what to do with it is something useful.
Oh and very finally teaching english to refugees - I could do that NOW!
Two more decades working...
I figure I'll probably want to work util I'm aroud 70, even if I don't need to, so I've actually got time to do most of these things if I so choose.
It's just a matter of getting started and picking one that doesn't cost a fortune to train in and then back to work, albeit for only half the week, that's all I want or need!

I think I'd be quite well suited to it, I've never really felt comfortable around happy people, and you don't get many of those at funerals!
Does it include washing the corpse?
How about something related to sustainable energy? Like solar or EVs. Personally I would have wanted to work in tesla or compnies in the renewable energy industry if i had the skillsets for it. Or If there’s a chance spacex.

Tbh, I think people in their 30's like me will likely never even see retirement. I just think when that day comes, pensions will be little more than like a tenner in a birthday card, but spread out over 12 installments. Like sure it's money but at best it's symbolic or traditional based on some legendary time long gone by.
I'm ok with it. I don't have a pension anyway cuz I've worked abroad my adult life, but I mean, people on average die like 5 years after they retire or something bombastic like that. I've seen how people wither and shrivel into nothingness after they stop having an obligation to themselves, their loved ones and society. I can easily imagine me working until I physically can't. (Though, whatever I do as work will be, as it always is, lazy and light!)
I think yr probably right re pensions getting worse - and one has to do something in retirement to keep going for sure!

I'm a music teacher, my schedule is very light, starting at 12, finishing at 2pm. Then paperwork and meetings through the week but that's pretty much it!
But... I got lucky. Actual light work probably like a librarian heh

I guess there is plenty of waste to be managed, that shouldn't be too hard to find... Which type of are you thinking?

Hey, I like how you research and your way of thinking.
I was almost never short of jobs, was usually unable to say now whenever a proposal seemed good to me, so I ve never really paused.
I am not sure I could provide any good advice, but if you don't do it for money, choose one job that will leave you free time to spare doing your other things or nothing.
I ll be watching to see what's next for you :)

I was just reading "The Psychology of Money" by Morgan Housel. He writes that the idea of retirement is a fairly recent one. Up until roughly WWII, people pretty much worked until they died. I don't think that's possible with a regular job. But dabbling here and there seems a more sustainable way to work until one drops dead.

There's something to be said for a regular wage, especially if you can just do a few hours each week. Working with people is going to be hard to automate, so that could be a good thing to go for. It's not really my thing though. Maybe I can work until retirement before my job gets done by AI.
the only problem is that government work can make you quite complacent and comfortable, so you tend to not go out of your comfort zome much. At least that's what it did for me. By the way, shall I start to arrange a meeting in Bedford? December I think, sometime around 4-8.12.23, to not be quite close to CHristmas and very busy? Is one month notice in advance enough or I must think about it earlier? I got a nice location.
