This is Larry Light the cat. He moved onto our porch about 6 months ago. In RVA the feral-homeless cat population is very high. This little girl "Kitty" below, now resides on our back porch. There are many feral cats in RVA and she is one of them. I see them all of over but especially in the East end, Downtown areas, etc. At least she has her male friend Light or relative as they do look alike...yet she's younger. He showed her to cross the street and come over here to eat. She will not come to you as she is feral. Feral just means they have never ever been around humans ever. They are extremely frightened or uncomfortable around them. She is warming up as she does meow and come within a few feet when she is hungry and getting ready to eat. The colder months are coming up soon, it would be nice if you ever see a cat or dog out do not assume they have a home, most around here do not.

This is my only inside cat, Zoe. She is 5 years old. She doesn't like Light at all. She hisses at him, lol!

This female cat was definitely a former pet. She was living in a few trees on the side of my house. She stayed tehre 24 hours and yet had a collar on with a loud bell. I finally took it off after awhile as it could harm her out here in the streets if she was hiding from a loose dog. I see a lot of those around here too but not as many as feral cats.

Aww your so sweet in taking care of these cats.

Oh, they are so cute! My cat was born in my garden. Her mom was a feral cat and I took the kitten inside as it was winter. She would come in and eat and feed them and then want out. I tried to keep her overnight - what a mistake! But, we kept the kittens and had the mother fixed.

Wow, that sounds cool she came to you, this kitten ..the youngest feral cat around here will not come within 3 to 4 feet of you only when she is hungry. Otherwise further away from you as she is scared. That's nice you took care of them. This one kitty and Light are both fixed as well. They have a trap and release program for feral cats here to keep the population down.

I lived in San Antonio when I got her. The kittens were rescued by me. The mommy came in to eat and nurse them. (surprisingly) then out again!

That's great! They have it rough out here.

Abraham Lincoln loved cats. He had four of them while he lived in the White House.

Interesting facts!

Cats often overract to unexpected stimuli because of their extremely sensitive nervous system.

Your picture of the tuxedo mix reminds me of a somewhat feral tomcat in my old neighborhood. He was friendly with a few residents on our block. My wasband and I called him El Negro and put out treats for him. We were pretty sure he was fathering a dynasty in our neighborhood.

That's nice you fed him, I'm sure he liked them. They seem to love water as well, there isn't too many water sources for them.

There was an interesting water source. Across the lot next to my house was a one story warehouse with flat roof. A bunch of weed trees came up along side.

The roof almost always had standing water. It was like a bath house for all the birds.

And the cats could get up there via trees.

It was fun place to watch from our upstairs window.

British cat owners spend roughly 550 million pounds yearly on cat food.

Cats respond most readily to names that end in an \ee\" sound."""
