[TV] Lost in Space

in #tv5 years ago

I always liked Lost in Space (1998) movie with William Hurt, Gary Oldman, and Mat LeBlanc. It didn't get great reviews (5.2 on IMDb) and my son didn't like it.

The TV show though has been getting great reviews (7.2) and my son loves it. It is another N Series, what Netflix calls their original TV series.

Storyline

Set 30 years in the future, colonization in space is now a reality, and the Robinson family is among those tested and selected to make a new life for themselves in a better world. But when the new colonists find themselves abruptly torn off course en route to their new home they must forge new alliances and work together to survive in a dangerous alien environment, light-years from their original destination. Stranded along with the Robinsons are two outsiders who find themselves thrown together by circumstance and a mutual knack for deception. The charismatic Dr. Smith is a master manipulator with an inscrutable end game. And the roguish, but charming Don West is a highly-skilled, blue collar contractor, who had no intention of joining the colony, let alone crash landing on a lost planet.

The story follows the adventures of the Robinson family who seem to be the only solution to every problem that comes up and at times the creator of the problem.

If you have seen the movie, the casting for the main character Will is fantastic. A lot of the adventures revolve around the youngest child Will, although character development for all the Robinson family members is good.

The show frequently puts one or more Robinson family members in life and death situations. The Robinson are smart and persistent and will do anything for their family. That being said, a lot of the adventures are saving the rest of the colony.

I particularly like Ignacio Serricchio's supporting role to the Robinson family as a comedy relief and anti-hero. He plays a key role in almost all of the Robinson's adventures.

The Robinson family over achievers who are in the select few who were allowed to travel from Earth to the new colonization. The father is a Navy seal who has mostly left his family while in the service. Will shares a lot of the science genius of the mother, where Judy is smart and a strong leader pursuing a career as a doctor. Penny being the odd one out without any obvious above average traits.

"The Robot" that Will finds plays a key part in most of the series and if it is truly a good or bad robot remains to be seen.

The show has a lot of adventure, drama, and action. The story is great and will keep your attention. It's a great show for kids who love space and adventures. I really hate the villain in the show as they drive me nuts with how evil they can are, but that makes them a great villain.

Season 2 just got released and because it is Netflix, you get the entire season right off. I was concerned the second season would have a difficult time keeping it interesting as a lot of events happened in season 1 making it hard to picture where they would go. I was very happy with the direction with season 2 and it was action start to finish.

I have been enjoying it. I really hope they continue to fund the series and it gets to a 3rd and 4th season. They can do a lot with the story lines.

One of the worst things ever is when these companies start a series, you get invested into it, and they pull the plug lol

Kinda like Firefly ;)

I absolutely hate this. Netflix seems to be kind of good at that too.

Yeah man, it sucks....That's why I never really get into many shows when they are new...I let them run their course so I can binge watch. And at least know I won't be left out to dry after one or two seasons LOL

I've only watched the first episode so far. I struggle to keep up with all the Netflix stuff I want to watch and just have to hope it stays there a while.

There's a lot of recycling in the movie and TV industry with re-makes and reboots. But then we can be suckers for familiar names and plots.

I am a big sucker for remakes of my childhood favorites. Some hit the mark, like this Lost in Space series, others miss it big.

Lost in Space
Lost in Space is an American science fiction television series, created and produced by Irwin Allen, which originally aired between 1965 and 1968. The series was inspired by the 1812 novel The Swiss Family Robinson, and on a comic book published by Gold Key Comics titled Space Family Robinson. The series follows the adventures of the Robinsons, a pioneering family of space colonists who struggle to survive in the depths of space. The show ran for 83 episodes over three seasons, the first of which was filmed in black and white.

It's a good show, I highly recommend it if you have any interest in the previous attempts.

You can come by and say that with all of your accounts, but the simple fact is, I don't vote my comments unless spammers like you flag them and I do so to make them visible. You keep coming by with your 15 accounts and flagging them. Then use another account to say I'm farming. Meanwhile you are posting 200+ times a day spamming and self voting them.

Are you trolling or just not so smart?

I never saw the movie, but I used to love the reruns from the TV series when I was a kid (also Land of the Lost and Ultraman ; -). I had no idea that there was a new TV show now. I'll definitely check it out. Thanks for the tip!

dr. smith was irritating character (and it was obvious what she is doing) in season one and in part of season 2 (in the end it was a bit less) but show has a 7+ rating so...
it is enjoyable and i believe it could be a good family show.

I really loved the first season of this. I ended up binge-watching it for the first time with some family when I visited them last year. I'm trying to hold out to do the same thing again with them for season 2.

My old neighbor who was a fan of the original 60's show put me on to this when they came out with the first season. I've got a soft spot for science fiction so in spite of it being a bit hokey at times I've really enjoyed it so far. I'm about halfway through the second season. I never saw the 98 movie or the original 60's series.

I just finished Season 2 a couple days ago. I am ready for season 3. Thought they did a good job setting it up for more seasons.

What I do know is that I would never marry into the Robinson family....ever!

I really didn't like the first season too much. A bit too many annoyances with some of the decisions that were made and some of the characters didn't really jive too well with me.

That said, I am glad I did still watch the second season, I really enjoyed that one, thought the story was much better and I was glad they added another layer of depth to Dr. Smith's character.

I remember watching it at the cinema. It was the time where all of us were amazed when glare effects were added to the scenes. Luckiky moviemakers exploited it too much and it lasted a short period of time.

I also enjoyed the Season 1. Every episode was of cinema quality and looked like a short-duration film.
