The GIRAMERICANA started! - We ate everything in Tucumán!

Forgive the time it takes to tell you, while traveling, sometimes it's hard for us to take the time to sit down and write ... But here we go ...

THE TOUR BEGAN!!

Being October 2, at 0.55hs we started from San Juan towards Concepción, Tucumán. The cost of each of the tickets was $ 1048 (Argentine pesos). We reached our destination at approximately 12:30, where Kevin's cousins were waiting for us.

Being in Tucumán, we basically devote ourselves to eating. We tried from typical foods of the region, to traditional dishes of Argentina in general. In one of our gastronomic tests, for example, they included us in the barbecue some Choris with roque (chorizos with roquefort).

From Concepción we travel with Elisa (Kevin's cousin) to San Miguel de Tucumán. This city is the capital of the province, and it is very important for the history of our country. The seat was chosen for the meeting of congressmen of all the provinces to declare national independence on July 9, 1816. The place of the meeting, known as the Historic House of Tucumán can be visited for free, following the explanation of the guide with respect to all the elements that each one of its rooms has, until arriving at the main hall where the independence was declared.

We also take advantage of the visit to see the 9 de Julio Park, the Plaza de la Independencia, among other places.

In the path of the Historic House, was the National Three-Piece of Empanada. A 90-year-old Mrs., from Famaillá, who keeps doing them. Impossible not to crave!!

In addition, the vendor of achilata ice cream passed by, a typical Tucuman ice cream that apparently can not be found in any other province.

To contextualize a bit of what this particular food is about, its origin goes back to the arrival of Italian immigrants to the country, and the word "achilata" derives from the phonetic transformation of "hay gelatta", expression of the vendors of that time to Announce that they had ice cream.

Continuing with our gastronomic tour through the city of San Miguel, we also tried the panchuque. It is a sausage wrapped in a dough made with flour, eggs, milk, mustard and salt.

It is a mixture of pancho and pancake, that's why its name.

Last but not least, we tasted the sugar cane alfajor. It is a very characteristic product, since Tucumán is the main national producer of sugar. It is common to see cane fields on the sides of the routes, and each city has at least one sugar mill.

Now with a full belly and a happy heart, we went on a route surrounded by vegetation to know Cerro San Javier.

There is the Christ of San Javier that occupies the 11th place among the highest Christos in the world.

To complete the day, we had the pleasure of eating Locro, Humita and Tamales in a hotel on the hill, with an incredible panoramic view of the city of San Miguel.

Finally we returned to Concepcion to rearm our backpacks, dine and say goodbye to the family.

Then they accompanied us to the bus station, waiting for the bus to our next destination: San Salvador de Jujuy!
