Alaska Fishing 2011

in #travel5 years ago

After working in Alaska in the late 90's I have taken the opportunity to go back many times on fishing trips. Having fished from Ketichikan to Homer I still have several places I want to try. However Homer Alaska pulls me back most often.

The trip to Homer starts with landing at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, get a taxi and head to the Holiday Inn Express Anchorage. I use to have a couple million of their hotel points and would burn off some here at the meeting place for those of us going fishing.

Most often we will meet up at the hotel, sleep for the night after a 7 to 12 hour flight depending on connections. Along with the time zone change a night of quality sleep is well deserved.

The next morning someone gets a taxi to pick up the rental van, then its time to pick up the crew and head to Fred's for fishing licenses and food.

On the way to Homer we stopped to fish the Kenai River. I have fished the Kenai four or five times.... never caught a fish. Seen some whoppers, seen others catch some whoppers, but so far for me it's not to be. However taking a half day trip on the Kenai is never wasted time.

Then a few stops on the way to Homer at the Russian River, the Kasilof River while always keeping your eyes open for a moose walking across the road. Unfortunately there are many killed on the road each year.

Here are a few photos.

That was a good fishing trip for Sean. He still talks about that trip.

Really impressive shots you shared.

Thanks so much and greetings from Mexico.

Your welcome. I need to add some Mexico fishing to my collection!

What's the tastiest fish you have ever had??

Smoked salmon.

The best I had was a fried catfish.

Cool.. I want eat one this big fish 😅👌👌👌 they look very big.

Fresh caught halibut is very good. My favourite is beer batter. There is a restaurant in homer that you can take some of your halibut and they cook it for you.

Brelent idea of the posting
