Rhodes is an island with rich heritage, architecture and landscape. I visited it at the beginning of fall, as my sister decided to get married there! At first, the whole family was negative as we had to travel all the way to Rhodes; but finally the island was an revelation.

Rhodes is located in the south-east of the Aegean Sea and it is up to 1 hr travel by plane from Athens. In the non-summer months the ships are fewer and slower, therefore it is preferable to take an airplane. What I liked the most was that this island is isolated and rather independent, like Crete. They have their own economy, mainly depended on tourism and commerce and that’s about it! They have a qualitative lifestyle, as you can find pretty much everything you need, while the options you have are numerous, as it is a big island with population over 100,000 people. Also, there are direct flights from abroad.

The most impressive jewel of Rhodes is the medieval city of Rhodes with the Palace of the Grand Master. Knights, fights and fairytales are dominating this side of the island, which is well preserved and worth your time to visit. Actually it has been characterised as an Unesco heritage city.

While walking in the narrow streets of the old city, you kind of think that you are living in another century and you are situated in another country.

It's a great island, which I had the privilege to visit in 2009... I miss it. Great photos! Just one thing: by "apocalypse" you mean "revelation", right?!

Yes..apologies I am not a native speaker.I will change it..

No worries :)

Awesome photos.

Looks so beautiful. My grandmother used to visit Rhodes a lot. Always been one of the places I would like to go to =)

Thank you..I hope you make it!

i haven't gone.................yet and the n1 reason i want to go is to visit that castle :P From the pictures i saw now, i think during summer i must be there :P

Yes do so.. it is so easy. Avoid august as I guess it will be too crowded

Rhodes is truly a beautiful island! I've been there only twice in my life and unfortunately I didn't have time to visit the whole island because I was a soldier but I visited the old city which was stunning. I plan to visit this island again in the future, only thing that bothers me is the 20 hour trip from Piraeus although air tickets are fairly cheap also!
Great post again! You got yourself a new follower :)

Thank you for your comments!!

"Knights, fights and fairytales are dominating this side of the island"

Sounds like the only thing they are missing is "onceuponatime" to get the story started!

Well every good story starts with "onceuponatime"!

"There at the Beginning of the Stories You Love"

Hmm I suppose this is where the state 'Rhode Island' got its name....
