The Basílica has been under construction since 1883 and has been called the most amazing form of Gothic art since the middle ages. Gaudi's work here is part of a UNESCO world heritage site and leaves your jaw hanging as you stare up into it's infinite depths of sculpture. It's truly a masterpiece of light, depth and grandeur, and is said to be completed in 2026.
When Gaudi died the Basílica was only 25% complete. His models and descriptions where destroyed in the Spanish civil war. Architects Francesc Quintana, Isidre Puig Boada, Lluís Bonet i Gari and Francesc Cardoner have worked with reconstructed versions of Gaudi's plans and continued work since 1940.
Computers were brought into the planning methods in the 1980s by Lluís Bonet, Jordi Bonet i Armengol and a Barcelona resident, Jordi Fauli took over as chief architect in 2012.
We were humbled by the details and work over the centuries intertwined into such a bohemian, chic city thriving all around. The Basílica is a reflection of sculpture transcribed over time and hasn't lost a moment in it's ability to stir your senses with wonder, imagining the infinite possibilities in the universe.
