The Christ the King Cathedral is also commonly known as simply Nha Trang Cathedral. This church is the head church of the Catholic Diocese of Nha Trang
The Nha Trang parish was founded in 1886 by French missionaries. This present cathedral was built in 1928 in the classic Gothic Revival style. The parish, is dependant upon the Apostolic Vicariate of Quih Non. It was eventually consecrated during Easter time in 1930.It was then called "Christ the King” for the first time.
At this time, the Church was attended by the famous French priest Louis Vallet of the Foreign Missions of Paris. Upon his death in 1945 he was buried here, after devoting his life to his parishioners.
In 1957 the apostolic vicariate was erected and the diocese eventually created in 1960. Monsignor Paquet, of the Foreign Missions, was the first bishop, as the church was chosen as the cathedral.
The cathedral, has a central location in the city, and is only about 1 kilometre from the sea. There is a remarkable amount of stained glass work here. The windows depict many saints, including several of the well known French ones, for example St. Joan of Arc, and St. John Vianney. There are also others telling stories from the life of Jesus.
