Hello everyone! I've decided to start my journey in Kiev.
It's a beautiful city, full of amazing history, delicious food, and wonderful friendly people. It's very safe (especially compared to large cities in western Europe) and you can get by pretty well with English. I'd recommend the city to anyone traveling in Europe.
The food is amazing and very cheap. You can eat very well at nice restaurants for only a few dollars.
I'm not exactly sure what these are but they're very good. It's some sort of fried pastry with a savory filling that I bought from an old woman on the street.
You can order a pot of tea anywhere you go. I love tea, so this makes me happier than it probably should. I ordered tea and soup for lunch and the restaurant brought me a complementary shot of vodka. (The National Vodka of Georgia, as it happens.)
There are many beautiful cathedrals within walking distance of the main train station.
The city is full of Christian imagery, which I'm surprised survived the communist era.
Before I leave, I'll probably pop up north to visit Chernobyl. Let me know if you have any suggestions, or if you're in the area and would like to meet up. Comments are always appreciated.
