Well i decided to give you today a glimpse of Reykjavik, the capital city of Iceland and in the last two parts i will go back to the amazing landscapes which you gonna love as i have fantastic photos.
Reykjavík is a spread-out city: most of its urban area consists of low-density suburbs, and houses are usually widely spaced. The outer residential neighbourhoods are also widely spaced from each other in between them are the main traffic arteries and a lot of empty space.
I would say it gives you the impression it is a half million people city but in fact it has around 130000. It is very clean, with low traffic, nice down town with interesting nightlife. Ok it is not something "wow" but for sure a relaxing city to enjoy. For sure when you travel to Iceland it is not the cities you intend to visit but after so many hours driving it is a town that you will find nice restaurants to eat and good hotels.
I would say for Greek standards it was a bit expensive but SKIP summer if you want to save money. Also book a car through airlines services (like Easyjet) as Renting a car in Iceland is quite expensive.
Traditional food here is what else? Fish and fish :D but please dont eat Whales as i love these creatures and i couldnt see them on my dish. For sure you can find easy food like Pizzas and Burgers.
Weather is not that cold as someone would expect for a country close to North Pole. But even for few hours we saw snowflakes despite it was 1st May. But Spring for Icelanders means 8-10 C. A citizen told us that even in summer temperature rarely goes more than 20 C but also min is not exceeding -10 with snow accumulation being lower than 30-40 cm. (Believe or not there are Greek cities that have more than 50 cm snow 2-3 times per year :-)).
For sure what i loved is the mentality of Icelanders, they are very warm people with good sense of humor and quite proud of their country!!
Main landmark is the church in down town named Hallgrímskirkja (if you ever manage to spell it correct tell me haha). Here are some photos

Wow! grate photos. I love the first one of Hallgrímskirkja. But I have to correct you about Harpa. Harpa is not a shopping center it is a music or a concert hall. There are only 3 giftstores on the first floor but the rest of the building is used for music with the home of the icelandic sinfonia.
oh thnx mariap for your comment
