Far Cry 5 Review: This Time In The Heart Of The United States

 

Every time I play the next installment of the Far Cry series, I have the impression that I have seen it somewhere. And at the same time, the vastness of the novelty surprises at every turn. And it is no different in the case of Far Cry 5.

Not a tropical archipelago, not Africa and not Himalayan highlands. This time the Far Cry series takes us to the heart of the United States. And specifically - those regions of the country, where the second amendment quotes from memory every four-year-old. You play the role of deputy sheriff, who begins his career in Hope county (Montana state) from a thick pipe - from the capture of Joseph Seed (or not, if you read this news ) - the leader of the sect with a pretty clichéd name "Gate of Eden."

It is not difficult to guess that things quickly take on a turn, and the hero (or heroine - in the beginning we can determine the sex of our protagonist ) goes into the middle of the war between the inhabitants of Hope County and the hosts of Joseph, with its heralds in the lead.

Why Far Cry?

Far Cry has accustomed us to a fairly well-worn scheme and let us not kid ourselves - we are dealing here with a typical run of events for this series. This is a permanent element of the series and its fifth edition is no exception, although I can not resist the impression that this part of it is the most interesting. Perhaps because of the number of threads and stories presented, sometimes microscopic, but sometimes this type of "flavor" is precisely about the power of setting a given game.

In this case, the secret lies primarily in the amazing detail and meticulousness of the presented world.The scriptwriters did a good job, offering us not only an extensive main storyline (even if it does not go beyond the frames outlined by previous editions of the series and sometimes "would like more"), but also countless amount of side stories cleverly woven into the main axis of history as well as the constant exploration of the game world.

Why Far Cry?

Extensive issues of side mates (of which there are so many that there is no way to list them all), hundreds of notes covered everywhere, messages recorded on voicemail, rumors transmitted by the NPC, allowing to discover interesting places and hidden stocks - all this is unique and despite its repetitive nature interesting. Far Cry 5 may and will not get the Oscar history, but lovers of the exploration narrative will feel like in paradise.

It is impossible to complain about boredom, because in the game it is impossible to go even half a kilometer and not get into a skirmish with the forces of worship at the same time, or not to find an interesting side quest or places worth a deeper examination. The amount of activity given to the player is absolutely shocking and if we are fans of unhooking next positions from long lists of main tasks, side quests, searching for spots, developing characters - this is a game for you.

Despite the ubiquitous accretions after the previous scenes, many aspects of the game have been changed and new arrangements. For example, we do not use observation towers to explore the map anymore - this time we must be very attentive, because we can learn about interesting locations by asking about the inhabitants of the county or using maps and tablets scattered around the map. Another novelty is the character development and crafting system rebuilt in relation to the four.

The first one is based on talent points, which we gain for strictly defined achievements or we find in preprops caches scattered everywhere, being also a place of interesting side tasks. Crafting ... disappeared. But do not worry - fans of hunting all the trophies collected will be able to cash in to buy better equipment for cash. It is also worth mentioning here - fishing (I do not believe that I am writing this!), Which is quite a nice escape from the next skirmishes with the Gates of Eden.

The county map covers a fairly large area and offers a fast travel system, but the Far Cry 5 salt is explorationso I do not recommend abusing it. If we decide to travel "manual", I am happy to report that Hope County can be visited in many ways. With the help of cars, quads, trucks, airplanes, helicopters, soaring with the help of a suit or jumping with a parachute.

There are a lot of possibilities and each of them seems to be good, although I must admit that due to the reviewing hurry my first choice was a helicopter, preferably solidly armed. Despite this, it is worth visiting, because without exploration of the map, our hero will not develop too much and soon he will feel stronger and stronger oppression from the supporters of the Seed sect.

Far Cry 5 is a full sandbox, but it results not only from the advantages, even if we are fans of the genre or the formula of the series. Freedom in action combined with a fairly average artificial intelligence make sometimes peculiar things happen to our eyes. And this is probably the result of at least some of the ills that we have to deal with. Speech of average artificial intelligence NPCs and enemies and ubiquitous bugs that effectively spoil immersion.

Fortunately, they are not critical and usually rather caused me a smile of pity, because how else to react to the fact that the NPC decided by me from the hands of the sect decided to steal the helicopter, just to break down 10 seconds later trying to ram the arrived meals the enemy? Nevertheless - bawich-chichy, but such things should not be in the final version of the game.

Other examples can be multiplied - after throwing the bait, predators appear often out of nowhere, the physics in the game can get a fool with a non-standard collision of objects, sometimes you can come across levitating elements of flora.

It knocks it out a little, but - as I mentioned - it is not crucial in the general account. But you have to make it clear - if you're looking for extreme realism, you will not find it in Hope County. Its inhabitants are a bit stupid, and the game itself is quite playful about the laws of physics known to us from the real world. Such a sandbox nature of this title.

The clashes with opponents are largely a mechanism transferred from the previous installments of the series almost a hundred percent. It shoots exactly the same, the arsenal of the weapon is very similar and again almost every fight can be played in at least a few ways.

There will be something for everyone, both supporters of explosions and loud riots, as well as assassins, equipped with a sniper weapon with a silencer or a bow.It's very reproductive, but it worked in three and four, hence I do not claim to Far Cry 5 in this respect a greater grudge.

It is a pity that weak SI opponents also return this time, often spoiling the fun of elaborately eliminating enemies. If the new bad guys had to face a group of colleagues from the first Far Cry, they would make a pulp of them. Probably not the best testimony of the followers of Bram Eden, right? Consolation and multiplayer (conquering fun during the hunt, even if the opponents behave like a moron), which in turn suffers from a number of childhood diseases, becomes a consolation. So far, there is a lack of good maps and a lot of bugs, it is hoped that the situation will improve over time.

Once we have behind us, a few tablespoons of tar, let's go back to the barrel of honey. A very nice barrel. Hope County is a beautiful land and it is impossible to deny its charm.

Perhaps this is not a top ranking in the ranking of "the most beautiful video games", but we still have a game that can delight your beauty.

Apart from the aforementioned bugs - looking at vast forests, valleys and mountain ranges you can really lose yourself in them, and if you feel like it - just find a vehicle and you can explore! "Also delivers" music - in the game there are a lot of licensed songs in the taste of the residents of Montana but also the original soundtrack is really nice to the ear.

Only small problems with the interpretation of sounds such as dialogues and the sounds of shots irritate- sometimes they are not played as completely as the location of their source could indicate.

In the end - Far Cry 5 wakes up in me mixed feelings, although as a game falls out well. On the one hand, it offers us an interesting and extensive, though in places naive campaign, a huge world and a lot of possibilities to spend time in it.

On the other hand - the sanbian dimension of the game is struggling with the typical problems of the series - weak SI, numerous minor bugs and average multiplayer modes.

Everywhere there is the spirit of the series here, and yet a large dose of novelty has been prepared.

The game draws in and if we forgive her copying of the previous installments of the series and stop the eye of not imperfections, it will provide at least a few dozen hours of first-class, sandbox-like gameplay. It is worth checking it out, although you must show some tolerance for this type of defect.
