My 2022 review

in #teamuk2 years ago

I thought it would be nice to take a look back at my 2022 to see what I've been up to.

January

I started 2022 by returning to live in my hometown for good. My heart is always at home even though I've been living away most of the time over the past decades. My welcome home gift was catching COVID which had me in isolation for 10 days. Once I was let free, I went for a walk by the seafront. The smell of home never felt so good.

February

My first holiday for two years. I went on a cruise with my sister. The thought of 300 people trapped on board a cruise ship may sound a bit scary when we're just coming out of COVID. It wasn't that bad actually, and was a good way to ease back into travelling.

March

Funny enough I can only find this photo from March, it must have been a quiet month. After 2 years of being car-less I finally bought one. This is the first time I bought a car online without even seeing it. It felt so scary paying out such a big lump some, and I was so worried if my car would turn up. It did, and it was delivered in another car! All it needed was big bow on it 🎀

April

In April I spent many hours volunteering at my local airport welcoming Ukrainians to the country. This is really nothing compared to what other UK families are doing by opening up their homes to host those in need. I'm glad I could do a little something even if it's just a smile and making Ukrainians feel welcome and safe when they arrive in the UK.

May

One thing I used to enjoy doing in the past was impromptu getaways. This was the first one I've done for a long time, a short break to Amsterdam to see the tulips. Face mask was still mandatory on the plane, but it really felt like the good old times were back again.

June

In June I went away with two of my siblings and their family to a staycation in UK. We're a close knit family and it's really nice to spend time with them outside of our homes and not onboard a cruise ship, which is their preferred type of holiday.

July and August

It was lovely to embrace the summer again without the worry of overcrowding or having to avoid people. Many events that were cancelled in the past two years were back again and I made the most of the scarce summer weather and went out a lot.

September

The highlight of the month was of course going to Hivefest in Amsterdam. So much has happened since the last real life one in Bangkok in 2019. We're in a much better place than before thanks to everyone's hard work and dedication.

October

Definitely the highlight of my year. I've written a lot of posts about the See Monster and my time volunteering there. My 2022 review wouldn't be complete without it.

November

Another sibling holiday, and another cruise holiday, this time with four of them. I told you they like cruises 😄

December

I really had no plans for 2022, it's been kind of difficult to plan for anything at all nowadays. Luckily I made it through the year unscathed. I even put up a Christmas tree at home, something that I haven't done for years. Things must be looking good for 2023.
20221225_180445.jpg

2022 has been a good year for most people, we got through COVID and returned back to normal life. For many others, it was the start of their nightmare, the bleakest and darkest period time of their life, still with no end in sight. One thing we all have in common though, is that we can count on Hive for support and friendship when needed.

How was your 2022?

Sort:

I enjoyed reading your 2022 review @livinguktaiwan and "see" that you are doing well. 🙂 Am I reading this right that you no longer have a thought you will ever return to Taiwan?

From half a world away, it is always very challenging to know what to believe, but the news we are "fed" here certainly does not provide a lot of room for optimism about its future. Perhaps more precisely, a future without a war to determine its future ...

I also really enjoyed the glimpse into how close your bond is with your family. I love to see close families, as I am not sure there is too much more important than that.

"Things must be looking good for 2023."

As we all head into the New Year, we can all hope that is the case. Regardless, I hope you and your loved ones remain safe and at peace.

Thank you for dropping by @roleerob. It won't be feasible to live in Taiwan anymore like I did before, due to all the uncertainties. That's a pity as it messed up my medium plan. However, I will still go back for holidays, will look forward to that.

Luckily my siblings are I are very close, we all live nearby and get to see each other often. The extended family is growing, we've had two little ones join us in the past month. It will be lovely to see them grow up as I missed seeing my nieces and nephews growing up, so now it will be the third generation 😀

Hope you had a great Christmas with all your family, and all the best for the new year.

Looks like you had a really awesome year! I've never been on a cruise. Like you said, there is something about that many people on one ship that scares me. I'd maybe like to try one some day, but it's going to take a lot for me to work up to it. Even before COVID I felt that way. Here's to making 2023 even more exciting!

Cruises can be very daunting if you haven't been on one before, and it's quite easy to get lost as it's so big. The good thing is that you will never be lost because you're always on the ship and can find your way back to your room!! Plus you can ignore everyone else if you want to, or talk to them if you wish, people are mostly very friendly.

All the best for 2023!!!

Thanks! To you as well. I think my brother in law and his family is going on a cruise to Aruba in a couple of months. Something like that could be fun I think.

speaking of the year, I can mention that my country made a huge step forward to disaster, if not already falling into a deep black hole led by crazy dictator. we are under wartime, so the year definitely was not good for most of the people, as you put it. 😨

One thing we all have in common though, is that we can count on Hive for support and friendship when needed.

that was a good thing to read, tho.

Your country definitely won't win the popularity contest this year and I imagine didn't receive many Christmas cards either. I feel sorry for those living there, either they're so disillusioned and don't know the truth, or those who do, have their hands tied and can't do anything. I don't know which is worse.

Let's hope the crazy man comes to his senses in 2023

"comes to the senses" ? the probability of the reverse process is strictly negative, imo
I pray he will die asap. but all the damage could not be undone

I pray he will die asap

I'm sure many pray for the same every day, him and his two commie buddies, they can all have their fun in hell together

Nice to see that during this year you fully returned back home, sittin under your own Christmas tree.
My favorite of course is the Sea Monster! Its still unbelievable for me, why it cant stay there forever or a least some years.

It was really nice reliving my year @beeber, like it was not that long time ago that things happen. And in a way, a bit sad, the more of these I do, the less I have to do because I'm using up my quota 😌

The See Monster was especially nice, and many felt the same as you. She'd be really lonely on her own if she was still open to the public now as it's not a nice place to be in this weather!!!

That was a great 2022 for you even it was starts with a covid but still God is so good that He keep you safe and let you enjoy those different experiences you have all throughout the year.

Advance happy new year to you @livinguktaiwan

Thanks for your kind words @jenthoughts, hope you had an equally good year, and all the best for you 2023!

Glad to see year rewind. Sounds like a Great and memorable Year to You. That September Hivefest part is Going to be my part of your Year. Kind of a wish to be there someday. 2022 is just neutral have seen disaster in form of inflation other than that I will say it was perfect.

I really wish you'll have a Great new Year ahead. Happy new year in advance!

Good to hear that your year was ok as well. I think as long as we have health and our family, then that's what really matters. Have a great 2023!

Merry Christmas! It’s been quite an eventful year thinking about it. I should do a similar blog post. There’s time to do one.

Look forward to your review Nick especially since I see your first year on Hive is up.

You have made it through this year with a variety of amazing moments, those beautiful places make me a little envious of seeing them, this year is a little different for me, there are not many special moments

Happy new year and wish you all the best in the next year

Staying safe and healthy with your family is a blessing nowadays, more important than anything else in a way.

That's right, I wish all our families well 🙏

2022 was a good year in general and this year I met Hive and also met my girlfriend face to face for the first time. We had talked online before, but of course that doesn't replace anything that happens face to face. I also met a lot of great people like you.

Wow! I didn't realise you were having an online relationship before, how long did that last before you guys met up? You two seem to be enjoying yourselves now, that must be the highlight of 2022 for you. So glad that it's working out well 😀

Thank you so much. We love each other and having great time together. We were talking time to time and let's say 2 years haha.

That is so sweet!!! 😍 Just like acid, you are destined for greater things on Hive!!!!!

Thank you very much. I am very excited about Hive, I hope I can be as successful as Acid. I have plans for Hive in 2023 and I really want to work on a project.

what an year for you! 😊 but... it sounds like you are not returning to Taiwan any time soon? 😥

shhhhhh ....🙂

Can i go with you on your next cruise please🙏, i promise not to disturb, i am so tiny i could literally fit in your hand bag😃

@livinguktaiwan you did a good job by remembering some of these activities and congratulations on your new car.

ha ha!! You'll have to ask my two little girls Snowpea and Mary who sat at the Christmas tree with me first 😊

A well detailed enjoyable 2022 I see there🤩. You had a lot fun I must say. I will try my luck if holidays in 2023 In Sha Allah. Bless up👍🤩

Thanks for dropping by

How fun it was to read this! It really was a pretty big year for you. Funny, after being gone for decades from my home, I have been thinking how wonderful it would be back there again. I realize how much I miss it when I return to visit. There are eight siblings and very close, especially during Covid. I say especially because we had more group chats/videos than ever before.

I did cruising this year too! Mine love to cruise! I agree that the first time, I brought a mask for every day, just in case. There was no need and it never felt too crowded. People were more considerate, it seems. I am going again soon. :)

That is brave with the car! Everyone I know that has bought that way has had success. Still, you people are gutsy! Could I do it? Hmmm. Not sure. I would want to, but, I might be a chicken.

That was a wonderful thing you did, welcoming in people that came to the UK. Anything done deserves to be commended, it is so easy to look away. So, thank you for your kindness.

I'll raise my glass and say 2023 feels good!!

Salut!

We did a lot of video calls during lockdown as well which was very nice especially for my little brother as he's the only one who lives aboard, the rest of us all live within half an hour. But now we get to see each very often, all back to normal at last!

When the chap delivered my car, he said the online car purchase is an American business model which has been around for a while. His company was the first one to bring the business model to UK and started in 2020 just when Covid started. It was interesting chatting with him as he was one of the early employees and he said a lot of customers were actually quite surprised when he really turned up with their car, as if they were expecting to be conned😄

Where's your next cruise to? Hope you have a great time!!!!

You've had quite a year and it seems things are getting back to something like normal, even if we have not totally escaped COVID yet. It's funny that we both cruised on the same ship, to different destinations, and it was great to finally meet you in Amsterdam.

I hope we can meet again in 2023. We need to get meetups going again and I have one in mind.

Wishing you all the best.

We are resilient enough to work around covid now, just need to make sure they are no external shocks to the system, otherwise I think we should be ok.

So you were on Virtuosa as well? What a coincidence! What did you think of it? My cruise was so so. It seems like they really cut back on the food quality as my sister was on it a couple of months before and she said it was much better then. But then I only paid a little over £300 for 8 nights likewise for many other guests as well I think, so you get what you pay for 🙃

No, I was on Iona to Norway. That was an experience, but we may not do many cruises. Just not our thing.

Seems like you've had an action packed year none the less.

I'd say that see monster would have also been the highlight of my year. Laughs it does look incredibly beautiful to say the least. If I was able to witness such a massively lit up gorgeous structure I would no doubt be bouncing around from all the excitement 😂😂

I'm sure you'd love the See Monster, especially the 10m slide going down, that was really popular with visitors

20221016_121837.jpg

It's the sight of witnessing such a massive structure.. I dunno it'll give me goosebumps and make me realize how little I actually am.

Wow, that's a lot of cruise ships, lol.

Thanks for sharing, @livinguktaiwan - it's been lovely seeing a peek into your very interesting 2022.

Annabelle 😊

Yeh, my sisters are big cruise fans, even their grown up kids love it. I tag along sometimes when there's a very good deal, I mean under £375 full board for 8 days to 4 different countries is a bargain very difficult to turn down!

Hope you and Ben are doing well!

Wow, that is a good deal, @livinguktaiwan I've always wanted to go on a cruise, but the pandemic has put me off a bit!

I've had my first Long Covid rehab therapy session today, so I'm exhausted, lol!

Annabelle

I'm so happy that you had such a wonderful year from returning home, spending time with your beloved ones, to meaningful volunteering and successful Hive Fest :) What a year :) Happy New Year, Pauline! Here’s to another year of good health, and love and lots of adventures :)

Thanks @trangbaby! You've had a tough year yourself, but you did so well and pulled through so bravely. 2023 can only get better, especially for you. I wish you all the best, health and happiness!

PS I never asked, what's your name? (It's ok not to answer if you prefer not to 😃)

The first six months were challenging, but I'm glad they're over now. It has been a great experience living in a new country, and I can't complain about anything. Thanks so much Pauline for all the care and support in the past year, Pauline :)

Trang is my real name :)

Trang! I always thought that was your surname, so it's a name as well in Vietnam?

Yes Pauline, Trang is a very common name in Viet Nam. The pronunciation is similar to Zhang in Mandarin :)

You've had a very interesting year, you really enjoy cruising right? I've never been there, but I would like to try one day to see how it is. My 2022 was a bit unlucky, but I still managed to have some good experiences ;).
I wish you a beautiful 2023, full of adventures and satisfactions.

Cruising isn't my cup of tea as you're restricted to the places you can go and for how long, I prefer to do my own stuff and itinerary. But this year was a bit different, I just needed to get away and found some really good deals, too good to pass over!!!

Sorry to hear that your year was a bit unlucky, hopefully nothing too major. All the best for 2023, upwards and forwards!

Sorry for the delay @livinguktaiwan! It has been a very busy days. No, don't worry, an unlucky year, but nothing that can't be fixed, it always goes on ;).

I understand, yes sometimes there are super offers for cruises, but from what you tell me, you too like to be free when you go on a trip. I like to travel by car, so I can move wherever I want to go. One year with a friend we traveled 5000 km by car between Italy, Germany and Holland, it was a bit tiring but very beautiful.

I wish you a beautiful 2023, which brings many satisfactions in everything.
