We all know Steemit.com is not advancing as fast as we would like and it seems clear Steemit Inc is more focused on the blockchain side of the platform than the UI, and that's fine.
There are other options available, and in time there will be even more. While I have not been thrilled by the options available, as they are better in many ways but in some ways, they add frustration until now.
Enter SteemPeak
A new front end to the Steem blockchain is available and it has years of innovation over Steemit.com. It has many of the features I want out of Steemit.com and more. It's not perfect, but it is such a huge step forward from Steemit.com at the current rate of innovation I'd say it is 5+ years ahead of Steemit.com.
No beneficiaries!
Before I get far into this, the first question most people will ask is "Does it have beneficiaries?". The answer is no. From what I hear, there will never be beneficiaries on SteemPeak.com.
What's so great about SteemPeak?
Modern UI
While not everyone will like the large format and high use of whitespace, I love it. I have suggested an option to have a smaller version of blog posts as I know this will come up for many people.
There is also a layout that is similar to Pinterest if you like that style. While it is more efficient, it's not my style and too busy. While many other features I will present can fall under modern UI, I am going to give them their own section.
Hide Resteems
One of the number one requested features for Steemit.com is the ability to hide resteems from your profile page.
This feature is built-in and can be easily toggled on or off.
Post Value
One feature that I love from SteemPlus is the ability to see who voted on a post or comment and for how much. In the past, this required a Chrome or Firefox extension, but this is standard with SteamPeak. Even better, you don't even have to open the post and you can see it directly from the profile page.
Want to know more? Click on the vote number and you can see a full list pop-up that shows all the votes and their amounts.
Scheduled Posts
This is another feature many people have been waiting for. I originally planned to create a service to offer post scheduling with additional functionality but found out it was already being worked on.
SteemPeak has post scheduling built-in!
Drafts and Templates
Similar to Busy.org, SteemPeak has drafts, but that is not all. SteemPeak also has templates you can use for frequently posted layouts for regularly posted content.
When creating a post you can opt to save it as a template to re-use in future posts.
A wallet that works!
I have numerous issues in Github on all the UI issues with the wallet page on Steemit.com. I feel this is a huge problem as the wallet is the most important page on Steemit.com for most users and it also has the most bugs. There are numerous display bugs that have plagued the wallet page for well over a year. Not only is this frustrating for new users, it is confusing and greatly reduces trust.
The wallet page on SteemPeak is fantastic.
Want to automatically filter out 0.001 spam memos? No problem!
Quickly filter incoming or outgoing transactions or even Search your wallet.
Speed
SteemPeak is fast, really fast. Go try it, nuff said.
Activities
Similar to the wallet page, there is an activity page with filters and a search ability.
Want to see the last time @dlive upvoted you? Just do a search and filter by votes. You can even go back in history by hitting load more activities as far back as you like.
How freaking awesome is that?
Did I mention it is fast?
# Notification
There are built-in notifications by checking your recent activities. I'd like to see desktop notifications like Busy.org and will suggest it next time I have a moment with them.
Comment rewards
Similar to post rewards, you can easily see who voted up your comments without even opening them.
Inline gifs
This feature is awesome, and most won't even notice they never had it. I am a huge fan of this feature.
Search
I hate having this feature so low, but this one will blow your mind. I have heard so many complaints about Steemit.com search and many people talking about making a third-party search solution. Well, SteemPeak has awesome search, built right in and it doesn't use Google!
Some work is being done on the ranking algorithm, right now it isn't perfect. The search functionality is powered by AskSteem search engine.
Grid Mode
While not my favorite view, I am told it is extremely popular with SteemPeak users. You can easily switch between this view and the default view.
Dashboard
Now this feature is freaking awesome.
You can also click the load more data button to look further back. This is built-in to the UI, and instantly accessible to all users!
Guaranteed Steemit Minimum Income
This is a clever tool to figure out how much you can expect to make on a monthly basis. While there is no way for it to be 100% accurate, it looks at your reliable incoming votes and gives you a baseline estimate based on current market price and how many posts you plan.
You can toggle and customize each vote if you think you have a better estimate of what to expect. If you want to understand GSMI better, check out the post describing it.
Bookmarks
Got a post you like? Want to save it? That's where bookmarks come in. Any post can be bookmarked for reading later or saving for reference.
Conclusion
SteemPeak is already so far ahead of Steemit.com development, and working on a shoestring budget. I'm finding it hard to justify using Steemit.com when SteemPeak is better and faster in just about every way.
Give it a try, tell them I sent you. I'd love to hear what you think about it. What you would like to see changed and what you didn't like.

hahahahaha get him :P gotta love people that do that
LOL!! At least no one else agreed with him.
This is hilarious

Ok, I see what you mean, but I don’t yet understand how it works what he’s trying to do here ;-)
Still got a lot to learn about Steem!
He upvotes his comments for 100% like 8-10 times a day basically using all his stake on stupid pointless comments offering zero value.
No Fake! I just came here from another post, saw that mess up top and scrolled down. Too old to upvote but here's a 2 day old comment.
I was scrolling the slider, and it took 3x longer to change. These Steemit glitches are annoying, always different and takes forever to fix! Gonna check out STEEMPEAK.
🐕
Right :-) Not really contributies to the social part of the social Network that Steem is off course... I get it now, thanks!!! ;-)

I do not think it's about being an "official site" at all. It is a better alternative in many aspects. Maybe Steemit should focus a little more on improving their UI to compete with these alternatives.

I've been using Steempeak for over a month now and im quite involved in the discord community as well. Brainstorming sessions have been going well and the guys in there are very active on the development front. For me, it has the potential to really clean up what you want to see on the blockchain. It's always going to be up to a user interface to be able to filter out the shitposts and allow the users to view exactly what they want to. In my opinion, with the right focus, it has the potential not only to surpass condenser as the de-facto user interface for viewing the blockchain, but also has the potential to do more for the blockchain than any other application can.
This site is wonderful, and I have @mattclarke to thank for introducing me to it.
I was using Steemit.com until today, and now there's no turning back from Steempeak.com. Whoever did the work to create this site would get a huge man hug with plenty of hearty pats on the back from me if I saw them in person!
Your post about the features and improvements of Steempeak is excellent too. Thank you!!!
That @mattclarke is a good guy!!
Aw schucks guys :)
You're only pointing out the truth and should be commended for it. I've changed my introduction information for new users to include Steempeak too.
Sounds interesting. I will try it. Resteemed.
I still use steemit but with a combo of steemworld.org..
Steempeak looks worth trying....
can you link to the page where wallet bugs are listed...I have never really come across any issues with Wallet page so interested to learn what can be the potential issue with it.
https://github.com/steemit/condenser/issues/2970 https://github.com/steemit/condenser/issues/2969 https://github.com/steemit/condenser/issues/2900 https://github.com/steemit/condenser/issues/2968 https://github.com/steemit/condenser/issues/2967
Are some of the ones I know of off hand.
Now that I read the descriptions , I think I have seen every one of these except 2967 & 2968
They have been around since over a year, in my opinion, the wallet is the most important page for most users and also requires the most trust. These issues do not create trust.
agreed...being a financial project and all..
I've been using SP for over a month now. A few features you didn't mention:
SOLID!
I've been on Steemit for 14 days and already experienced half of the challenges you mentioned in this post. It seems like Steampeak would be great. However, I have no idea how to use another front end. Can anyone recommend a post that talks about how to use multiple front ends? I'd like to try it out.
All you have to do is log in to the other one and stop using the other one or not stop. You are free to use any front end that you choose.
Okay for us simpleton's you are going to have to example it out....I've tried twice, one I got a 404 message and another that this site isn't available.
You can log in to Steemit.com and be logged into SteemPeak.com at the same time.
How do you get to Steem Peak from Steemit?
You don't. You use SteemPeak.com
Be sure you go to "steempeak.com" not "steampeak.com", the second one is a domain that's for sale.
I figured out what I needed to log in. You use your same username (sunlit7), but use your "Active private key" or "owner private key" as your password.
If you are logged in to "steemit.com" with the owner key, you can see your other keys on your "wallet" page under the "permissions" tab, you have to click on the button to show private key. When you first signed up the owner key is what you were given but you might have thought of it as the password for steemit. You can use it as a password, but it's the owner key.
This year old post from @drakos helped me start to get it, maybe it will help you. https://steemit.com/steemit/@drakos/steem-private-and-public-keys-demystified
this is absolutely brilliant. thanks for sharing man. had no idea this even existed but now i can’t stop looking at the dashboard and all the extra features.
personally i use steemit because it’s clean and easy to navigate. but steempeak is pretty sweet. i can see this becoming more of my front end for desktop interactions

Dashboard hasn't been updated since day 1 ... just think it can and will be EVEN BETTER!! haha
Hey, I just noticed the tokens expire for added accounts. Is there a way to not have to re-enter keys once a week?
Hello igster :). There is a white screen again in steemgar. Can you fix it?
Thank you very much, igster :))
Hello igster :). There is a white screen again in steemgar. Can you fix it?
You sold it to me. The UI, the stats, awesome. And no charge, that is a major plus, one of the reasons many people use steemit.com is because there are no charges

I actually put together a brief steempeak video a few weeks back. Here it is if anyone wants to take a tour of the best website known to man.
Hope you're OK with a linkdrop. Thought it might help for those who like videos more than reading: https://steempeak.com/steem/@littlescribe/your-steem-fantasies-have-finally-come-true
upvoted for visibility
Done! I love the fact that I can switch users so easily. No signing out or using different browsers. Not to mention the dashboard! Now who doesn't love a pie chart or two. :D
Nice, we definitely need more Steem UI to compete with Steemit.com
Agree... Steem peak is quite ninja already, and let's not forget it's the new kid in town

What about security? Is all the code available for review? Can you trust with your private keys?
Keys are not handed to the site. It uses steemconnect so it has no access to your keys.
The folks behind Steemit built Steemconnect right? It says it's a Steemit + Busy project.
It was originally developed by Busy.org to integrate Busy.org w/ Steem safely, then taken over by Steemit.
That's indeed a very important feature!
Nice one. I like Steempeak, I believe you were the one who told me about it originally. Also, I like partiko for mobile post viewing / up-voting. I don't comment with it though as it leaves spam inside the comments.
There is no way to turn that off? It's maddening seeing that on all the comments.
I haven't found a way. I hope they do have a way eventually though, as it makes the chain fatter for no real reason other than promotion, and we can promote them with posts and videos. So i don't see a reason for it to be in non related comments if that makes any sense.
Upvoted to get rid of those friggin stoopid comments posted from my iphone barf
Nyahahahha...
Partying like it’s
1999Hotmail all over. For me, steemit.com is like a Diary; a mirror or reflection of our self; a dictionary of crypto and educational activity.
It is not just about earning money that the other mislead or misunderstood of using it. Friendship is built on it by meeting up etc.
I love Steempeak - and the grid view. It gives me a quick and easy overview of new posts using a tag I'm interested in.
Great review, especially the template saving sounds awesome, anything else that s better than busy?
Well, the main reason I'm still using Steemit.com is because that's the site I signed up with. I wouldn't want to enter my private key into a site I'm not familiar with. Could end up being phished. I don't even know which one is the valid link for SteemPeak since it doesn't look like it's mentioned in this article.
There are others as well, and I got lucky with busy.org that I didn't get phished losing my account. There's just too many ways to get screwed (DNS poisoning, etc) if you have sizable holdings on the Steem blockchain, so I err on the side of caution.
Neither busy.org or steempeak.com or any other site that uses SteemConnect has access to your private keys. Nor are they ever sent over the Internet.
Woah.. intense.
So many features..
Resteeming it and gonna check it out.
It looks like I will have to try it out judging on your posts. Steemit is great but has many flaws and some of which are glaringly obvious. Steempeak seems to have addressed a lot of these and if they are putting that much development into the userface then it might fix the rest soon enough. I've been using steemworld.com for stats but the Steempeak page looks brilliant to have it built into the site itself.
Recently I have also taken to using partiko which is an app that similarly has a few gaps up to now but is a huge improvement on any existing app that I have seen to date. It also doesn't have any benificiarys which is good.
These are what we have been looking for and it seems like all the development that has been going into the users side of the blockchain is landing at the same time. This bodes well for the future especially if the devs are getting the same results behind the scenes.

Technically there will never be "Forced Beneficiaries" we love the concept of optional user decided beneficiaries of a post.
Holy crap, that looks awesome!!
This is really looking like a huge step forward for Steem-kind ;-) Thanks for pointing this out, @themarkymark! I especially like the little extra's like "hide resteems" because they mess up the visuals on the feed, which is important for many users.
Also the wallet page is a huge leap forward, and after trying it out for a few minutes I can already tell it works smoothly. Now if I could just find the "power down" button... Not that I'm planning to power down, but I just miss some buttons on the wallet page. Can you tell us where they hid them?
Love the clean layout to; I'll stick with steempeak for the time being and if I encounter no nasty bugs, I've found my new front-end!
Thanks so much!
HUZZAH!!
Goddamn, that's fantastic stuff, man! You're an obviously outstanding and innovative developer, bud. Thanks for your awesome contribution to the steem blockchain! :)
This is not my project, just one I am very excited about.
Whoops! Lol, sorry! Well, thank for bringing it to our attention then. Bless... :)
Hi dear thanks for nice info but you know I personally thought that steemit has also some issues like spammy posts and there is lack of quality in content alongside, that's why along with financial prospects quality of content also lacks here, and let me check steempeak than for sure I ll respond you. Anyways thanks for new idea.
Cheers,
@syedaamir
Thanks for sharing about the key features that are most important to you. I have heard people speak about SteemPeak over last few weeks, but your post is convincing me to give it a try.
How is the search system any good if it uses AskSteem, which shows only posts that are at least a few months old?
Also, I searched for "business" and got:
That's a sorting issue, the Ask Steem integration I believe is only temporary until they have their own search.
AskSteem is powerful but it's not great at SORTING and showing the info we implimented it just as a stop gap. The real power in search is not in FINDING stuff (which asksteem does well) it's in the decisions that put certain results before another.
That we have not worked on yet. That's some algorithm type stuff right there. haha
However maybe for the time being we can just default to NEWEST perhaps.
Why don't you like esteem?
I tried it on mobile a while ago, it's been a while.
eSteem Surfer is desktop app, give it a try ;) We are working on improving eSteem Mobile with upcoming release, as well. Good detailed review on SteemPeak...
At the time (when I was a young steemian) I looked at the desktop app but seems like it was taken down or not updated so I never ended up trying it. I did try the mobile version though.
Oh right, initial version was just ported from eSteem Mobile but eSteem Surfer is new product with new code. There is something special in works for Surfer, we hope to share with community within month or two.
is there like a demo video of eSTEEM desktop where can i do a quick preview without downloading?
We had some Surfer Tips posts here, bottom of this page has more tips linked in: https://steemit.com/esteem/@esteemapp/edit-history-or-surfer-tips-13-ec1e63e53d4e2est
Try it again it's actually not bad
I tried it a while back ..was very clunky...
We are working on new release of eSteem Mobile, stay tuned!
aight..I am open to trying it out again..
It's not perfect but I like it, I'm using it every day...
Looks good, I’ll try it out.
My guess, though the steem price impacts more than the UX
Hah. I'll just copypaste a comment I left elsewhere a few minutes ago:
Because it still pays me something.
Although I've found a platform that rewards me more and I've been focusing more on that one. Also, I'm holding on to some naive hope that maybe a new whale comes along and notices me and adds me on his autovote list.
So I'll post here and there.
Also, beneficiaries is one of the few good and worthwhile features here.
Actually, SteemPeak is just a front end on the Steem blockchain. You don't lose any of that.
I know. But then again, I only use the site steemit.com for vomiting my content on the chain in hopes to whore myself for a few bucks, so the UI doesn't really matter much.
Nice article. I also like steempeak. It is my favorite front end. I've just gotten used to steemit now, so I forget to use it.
^
That's what we're like as consumers. That's why the libertarian argument of the rational consumer often falls flat on its face.
I worked in the industry for years, and I saw tons of people, on a daily basis, being frustrated with their mobile phone and internet service providers, listing dozens of issues, but continuing to pour money into the companies simply because they were so used to being their customer.
Stares blankly at my AT&T phone... grumbles a little and acknowledges you are right and I am lazy.
Haha. I know, right. Being human is hard and frustrating at times.
Sounds very good! So much Features 👌 I will try and give a feedback 👍😀
It looks good, I've not used steemit side I discovered busy, I might try to dip my toes into steempeak, I like that it has a night mode and I don't have to use any outside tools to get a night mode going on like in busy.
I continue to read about it more and more as they have also recently deployed a @steemmonsters gateway with @peakmonsters. Do they take any rewards from using the platform and is the log in as secure as the Steemit site?
No beneficiaries to use it.
It uses SteemConnect, like Busy.org.
Thanks! Missed that first part on beneficiaries. Really like this then. Will try it out for sure!
Thanks a lot @themarkymark, really needed one.
I am still using steemit.com because it is simple and I like simplicity. Also, I am lazy and used to it. This being said, several of the features you mentioned (actually one or two) are interesting so that I will potentially give steempeak a try, maybe later this week. Thanks for the review!
checked it out really quick because of your post and I really liked it! I think I'm gonna mess around on it for a few days but it definitely is leaps and bounds ahead of steemit.com so thanks for telling me about it :0)
Sincerely on Android Chrome I don't see any great advantage comparing to Steemit
I'm guilty.... i've checked it out a time or two but i don't guess i like change..... i have been posting from busy.org for that vote from them once a day ;)
One day we'll find that feature that pulls you over ;) mahahaha
Interesting....verrrrrry interesting...I look forward to a tutorial...@flawy comes to mind for creating some of the best work on the platform.
Best regards.
Peace.
Looks interesting, will have to check it out!
Posted using Partiko iOS
Very nice @themarkymark! I also made a review on steempeak a while ago, it surely has so many benefits! I personally like the "side by side layout" when writing post so you can instantly see how it looks when you make the post. also used the scheduled post, it works wonderfully! cheers man:)
Always fun to know which services people are liking the most.
hah! Yeah, It is all in the details sometimes:) Something that just makes life a little easier!
Well you got me intrested! I'm going to give it a test drive and see how I like it.
What a great review and so detail!!! :)
Thanks for sharing information!!!
Start following you now. :)
I have not heard about the steempeak before and it sounds really good, so thank you for sharing it with us.
I will definitely check it out.
Nice condenser, I will try it out.
But a feature that I would like is separation between resteem and real post. Like there should be a way to search for my old posts without getting pissed off by resteems.
There is and I mention it in the review.
Previously I've been too lazy(? not sure if that's exactly the word I'm looking for) to try out alternatives to steemit.com . There are a lot of issues with the site but none of the alternatives really stood out to me and I figured the issues I have with Steemit were minor enough to just say fuck it.
This looks so fucking awesome though. Really. Everything about it. Usually I kind of just brush past these sorts of posts but Steem Peak looks great! Definitely going to try it out. Thanks man :)
I will try steempeak. It definitely seems to be way ahead of steemit.com
