Last night, I met an old friend a bar, and I saw him drinking apple cider. Thinking that it has only 4.5% of alcohol, I decided to give it a go.
And that was how I woke up this morning, my senses numbed.
You see, I had always been allergic to alcohol. Some would say it's the inability to breakdown the sulphite in the drink, but truth been told, I could never hold down one. Beers, wine, mojitos, Kahlua… you name it, I've tried it, searching for a drink that I could handle. Over time, I would just give up and drink Coke at bars. Over time, I even stopped going to bars for overpriced Coke.
Just as a reference, how bad my body could not take in alcohol: just a bottle of 6% is enough to knock me out for at least 30 minutes, before I wake up to a series of vomiting.
But I did not vomit last night, which was good. My heart did race, my face flushed, and I was happier than usual. My focus shifted in and out, and I wasn't really sure what I was talking about half the time. Imagine that, with only a bottle of 4.5%.
What I didn't expect, though, was the numbness in the morning. Not of the body, but of the mind. You see, I had woken up for a good 30 minutes, which usually by that period, my Mini Motivation morning journal would have been completed and posted. But today, I searched high and low for an inspiration, but failed tragically.
I looked externally, trying to find for a stimulus, a trigger, a reaction. None.
I looked internally, trying to find a string of thoughts, a familiar emotion, a piece of wisdom. None.
Little did I know the effects that alcohol had on my mind, and it's toll on my creativity. It's funny how something seemingly harmless - again, it's only 4.5% - could do so much damage to my thought process, long after it had been consumed.
And as I finish up this piece, recording down the morning I woke up without the right motivations, I am wondering - if this is the effect that alcohol has on the body and the mind, why do people still consume it?
Do you have the answer?
Mini Motivation is my own daily strategy to inspire myself. Mostly 3-minute reads.
From Motivation, we gain Inspiration. From Inspiration, we achieve Momentum. And the rest, they say, is history.
Hope it helps nudge you a bit too in the right direction.
Oh it did? Let me know in the comments, and of course an upvote would be a nice motivation for me. :)
Stay awesome!

Wait, why's Mav posting on Steemit nowadays?
Well, unlike other blogging and social media platform, Steemit is the only platform that allows me to earn cryptocurrency when I engage with it. Yup, one Steem is about USD5, and you, too, can earn Steem Dollars every time you:
- Create content (articles, blog posts, podcasts, videos, photos)
- Upvote (like) other people contents
- Comment on other people's posts
- Have discussions, share opinions etc!
Yup, basically it's the very same thing you're doing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc all along!
The only difference? For once you can earn a nice income on the side!
Sign up for a free Steemit account, and you can thank me by coming back and upvoting this article. And guess what, you will earn Steem too for doing that! #awesome
For some people alcochol works like eareser. In your case I dont think it make so big damage ,maybe makes you more "blue bird".
Wow @maverickfoo no disrespect but that is fascintating. I never heard of that. Iam sure it is more prevalent than I think.
But anyway it's probably a good thing your body doesn't accept alcholol as it does so much damage in some many ways to so many people in this World :(
