The Tremendous Irony of Trevor Noah

I used to be a religious fan of The Daily Show when comedian John Stewart championed the first ever true attempt at news-based comedy. Even though you might be a Republican that received the butt end of most jokes, we can all agree that he was excellent in his craft and the first comedian to become a true political commentator. I never missed a full episode, which was my go-to break during school and quick meals.

Much like many others, I was sad to see Stewart depart from the show. After almost 2 decades of nurturing his signature program, he retired to focus solely on family and a number of non-profit initiatives. He was replaced by Trevor Noah, a comedian from South Africa. Noah was a fresh, young and handsome look compared to the now aged Stewart. He brought with him a more upbeat energy and it was clear off the bat that the show would become more of a Late Night with Trevor Noah over the previously designed Daily Show with Trevor Noah.

The show quickly slanted into a very socially-driven program. The cast of characters was quickly replaced by comedic unknowns, seemingly selected based one their race more so than their credentials. Ronny Chieng in particular I find a pathetic comedian, relying on severe accents and asian stereotypes to distract from the fact that his jokes are shallow and performance lacking. The topics of the shorts and commentaries also became more socially-driven in nature.

I’m very unsure whether this is supposed to be funny. It actually seems more mean-spirited and created just to solidify Noah’s base one the Left. His programs are filled with this type of thing, following the mainstream trends of one side yelling at the other. It isn’t interesting comedy and it isn’t incisive social commentary. Rather, it’s more of a comedic-slanted Buzzfeed of a program. No thanks.

This recent video exemplifies the true loss of the Daily Show’s vision.

Not only is Noah’s monologue full of irrational holes, it actually breathes contradicting thoughts into the same sentence. If I were to ask you, which political side knows how to “wield victimhood?” Which political side makes massive generalizations and draws irrational lines between individuals based one their group identities? Which side enacts mob rule against thoughts and opinions they do not disagree with? Noah precisely describes the main tactic of the Left when trying to pin Trump with some malevolent intention. He completely dismisses the potential of individual lives being ruined for the sake of a group. That is weaponizing victimization, Trevor. Noah is either stupid and oblivious, or this is a forceful attempt to share the blame for this absurd PC-regime political climate that is propagated by leftist identity-politics.

Like most celebrities that try to weigh in seriously on political happenings, I find it tremendously boring. Whether it’s Kanye or Taylor Swift or anyone else. The biggest issues in America are socio-economic ones. And no millionaire singer or celeb is going to understand why anyone voted for Trump or is sympathetic with Kavanaugh. They assume it’s because of racism or bigotry, and never once consider that their are some really frightful ideas being spread on the left side of the isle.

I really hope liberals (the ones more tainted by the mainstream rhetoric of the left) wise up.
