Now this was a rare treat!
For years I have said that "You never know what you are going to find, but you find more when you look." I was just discussing this earlier today with @vcelier and @naru-celier. At the time, we did not find anything, but that was not the case on Friday.
On Friday, as we enjoyed a nice vegan meal together I noticed that only @papa-pepper, @vcelier, and @naru-celier had finished eating all the food on their plates. The @little-peppers were slacking. I used this as an opportunity to teach my little ones about the importance of eating all of their food in a timely manner.
I asked @naru-celier if he wanted to go take a look for some snakes. The adventurous young man excitingly replied in a positive manner, so I asked @vcelier the same. As I arose, I told the @little-peppers, "Well, we have finished our lunch, so we are going to go looking for snakes. Enjoy the rest of your meal." (Yeah, sometimes I rub it in a bit and like to put things in perspective for my children.)
OFF WE GO!
The three of us strolled off a few feet away to look around by some nearby buildings. As we were returning (yes, we missed this one the first time) we saw something on the ground next to one of the buildings.
I small, dark snake was coiled up. I had to move some grass to even completely make it out. Though I had never seen one like it, I was pretty sure that it was a Pygmy Rattlesnake that happened to be much darker than any I had seen before.
Every other Pygmy Rattlesnake that I had ever caught looked like the one on the right. The darker one on the left is the one that we found.
IT IS VENOMOUS TOO!
Yes, these snakes have both fangs and venom, so I did not let our guests get too close to it. While waiting to relocate it, I decided to take the time to shoot some photos for all of you to enjoy, or to cringe at, whichever you prefer. Enjoy them, I think that they turned out very well.
here's the proof:As always, I'm @papa-pepper and

Until next time…

@papa-pepper, And this all happened during a vegan lunch?
Yup!
Hello @papa-pepper. I translated this post in Russian. Translation here: https://steemit.com/photography/@papa-pepper/close-to-the-creatures-with-papa-a-black-pygmy-rattlesnake-plus-bonus-background-story . Thank you! I know that you are very kind, otherwise you would just eat this snake for vegan lunch...
The post and translation are interesting! Thanks @papa-pepper and @igor-steem

Thanks @pocketrocket!
Yes! I was waiting to see what you guys found! Great photos of a beauty snake!
It has been a pretty adventurous time. We will have to see what tomorrow brings.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, but that is not something I would go looking for!
Personally, I would rather look for these and find them to relocate them than have a child find one by accident, if you know what I mean. It works out well for us this way.
Definitely! I'm glad you found it.
Those pictures are really good. Made me jump back from the screen. Didn't want to get to close to that rattlesnake. Snakes are so mysterious and dangerous to many. But I'm sure you find them very interesting and of course not afraid of them at all. Just a city slicker, I guess.
I am glad that you enjoyed the photos and think that they are quality. I am also glad that steemit has given me a reason to shoot photos like this once again.
Your definitely an asset to the Steemit community.
How long do you have if you got bit by one of these? I also think you may want to learn how to make some anti-venom if it is possible.
I do not think that a bit from one of these would kill me, but I am very strong. Might try milking one just for fun.
Probably not....have you been bitten ever by a rattlesnake?
You wouldn't feel great, but as long as you are healthy and not allergic, it's not likely you would die.
✌
Whoa.. Beautiful snake! Kinda scary too, lol.
By the way, I really liked this quote!
"You never know what you are going to find, but you find more when you look."
That's great and how I often look at life. Do you mind if I quote you on that and share it in the future on a post somewhere?
You are completely free to use that quote. It is one of my favorites and has been very true for me, which is why I created it.
You must have some cool snakes out by you, right?
Word! Thanks. I can see why, it's a good quote! :)
And yeah.. Based on my understanding.. Surprisingly we don't have that many different poisonous snakes here.. Only a few, the rattlesnake and then the coral snake and from what I read the coral snakes jaws are too small to really bite humans.
Though outside of those we have quite a few other kinds of non venomous snakes like king snakes and stuff like that.
OH.. PS.. I actually tried to pick a couple up a couple years ago to get over the fear of it.. And I did.. But.. I felt kinda bad for disrupting the snakes afterwards, heh.. I probably scared them a bit.
Glad to heat that you picked some up to conqueror your fear, way to go!
Word! Snakes and spiders have typically been very scary things to me in my life, i think they are to most people.. But I even used to wake up when I was young having umm.. Walking "nightmares" or whatever you call them, and I'd like wake up screaming out of my bed or in it thinking there was spiders and snakes crawling all over me, lol... So.. I probably was a lil more scared of them than is normal. I'm not sure. But it was definitely a major fear to get over! And I felt a lot different and wiser afterwards. :)
This deserves some attention. Upvoted and resteemed :]
Thanks @well-yeah!

Oh my...I am so scared. Commenting with my eyes closed!
Oh no! That scared?
I've never seen a rattlesnake in my life but I've seen Indian Cobra which is another magnificent creature. Though I would never get as close as you did. Thanks for sharing these pictures.
I would like to meet one of those in the wild one day.
This was big snake :))
Woow outstanding post
@abutaleb365
I would not say I am fond of snakes, but I do not cringe when I see them, either. I am cautious, though. I have had the opportunity to hold snakes a few times; I could not help but marvel over the way the muscles rippled under my hands. When God punished the original serpent, "...upon thy belly shalt thou go..." (KJV), He generously compensated with those powerful muscles and magnificent scales!
That is some pretty good shooting "pictures", really makes ya think about what all is just too close to the babies.
Those are some beautiful snakes :o

😱😱😱😱😱😱
I'm really scared if I meet a snake like this. I'm sure I will run as fast as I can, hahaha ..
thanks @papa-pepper steemit is just for you! :D
Nice papa-pepper. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful snake. I love herping. I have come across many species of snakes, lizard, turtle, frog etc. But the one thing that alludes me are rattlesnakes. I live in Texas, I know, the capital of rattlesnakes, and I have yet to ever find one. My uncle even has a ranch in Brady and he manages to find rattlesnakes all the time(when I am not there).

The photos are stunning. And you said they were your originals. Im just wondering what kind of camera did you take the photos with and what size are the images?
WOW! YOU ARE BRAVE!~
Ok.. You have balls of steel!!
Also, I presume the hidden letter on your friends t-shirt is a 'G' and not a 'W'..?
😂 😂
Yes, it is a G.
Thought so :P
Once again I must say it. How can you possibly crave to hold and seemingly "cuddle" these dangerous snakes? Every time I see this my reaction is the same, WOW!! Thanks for sharing your adventures, they are truly one-of-a-kind!!
