Ever since I was a little child, I was fascinated by the weather.
For some time I have been contemplating about these series. Ever since I've moved on from the thunderstorms! It was just too dangerous and risky, and hell of an expensive trip!
You need a lot of different lenses, filters, you need a waterproof EVERYTHING and most importantly - you have to be close to your car at all times. Otherwise you might get hit by lightning, because thunderstorms move very fast and you miss your moment, so there is a lot of commute. I still haven't given up on thunder, I will love it forever, it's still my favourite, but maybe the time for that hasn't come yet.
The Fog however, is silent. And I found out that fog seems to be one of the most fascinating and inspirative things on Earth, not only for the person with a camera, but also for the person watching the photos of it.
Even if you are not a shutterbug I would kindly recommend a walk in the fog at least once, when a chance is given. It has a strange peacefulness about it. If you are a photographer however, getting up at 5 in the morning and making that lonesome trip to your scouted location will certainly BE worth it. Get out of your comfort zone, take your favorite lens and just go take pics!
I live in Zadar, a coastal city which creates manny opportunities for fog, especially in February/March. Whether it's architecture that you love, people or landscapes, everything looks hauntingly amazing in fog.
And don't think that your surroundings have nothing inspiring to offer, take a chair and put it in the middle of a foggy field and you will get an awesome shoot!
A few more tips:
- watch out for your white balance and exposure, if you don't want all of your pics to look blueish or "cold"
- never underestimate weather
- bring cleaning tools when taking photos in wet/moist conditions
- have your fun!

It's always interesting to see that when you pass the road tunnel and get out of the hill there is sun shining and perfect weather while here it's constantly in the cloud... so I think I could try this kind of photography as I have many opportunities :)
Your photos are great. I like the last one as it makes me think of old Polaroids and the 80s' :)
Thank you for sharing and congratulations on your curie vote!

I have noticed fog normally happens around water and it gives you a very peaceful eerie feeling. Some great tips for taking some decent photographs. I enjoy lightning shots and it is all about timing and some photographers have got extremely lucky.
You got some cool pictures there. Speaking of cool, it is the thing that I associate with fog. I only get to experience fog when going to the mountains here in our country. We are situated in a tropical country and it is just occasional to experience such. I believe the weather also has gotten warmer compared to my childhood days, where I get to have some small flashes of water in my face when we are riding at the back of SUV and entering some sea of fog while going to school.
I get to experience again fog when I worked in a remote town where it is situated in the mountains. As early 3pm, there is already the presence of fog and if you are not used to the cold, then you are really into some serious shit. There is just some tranquility when you get to experience living in an area with fog. It is just a totally different experience.
Looking forward to see your other photos! Cheers!
yea, indeed it's all about timing. When one finds a perfect timing for what he wants, the outcomes are just great. And yea thunderstorms are frightening to me too. But i like how you go with your timing.
Great piece in there and i enjoyed every second i spent on your blog. Your pictures on the other hand are lovely. The fog effect is awesome.
Thanks you ferrate! I am glad you enjoyed it.
Thunderstorms are a real gamble with life haha, stay safe!
Kind of envy you for these lovely photos, it's not everyday that you can catch such a weather. I love to photograph fog, to experience it, not so much. I live in a region that is kind of protected and we only have fog once a year, maybe. Last November I was lucky to have two foggy days and was able to take some photos but nothing like yours. The fog wasn't so dense as yours.
These photos are absolutely fantastic! I love how the pass way disappears in the fog and the nearby water just makes it more enjoyable. These photos could easily end up as a cover of mystery book.
Congratulations, well done!
I see this is part 1, so I'm thinking there will be a part two soon, that makes me happy :).
Hey Erika! Thanks for the lovely comments. I wish at least one my photos would end up as cover :)
Where are you from If I may ask? Whats it protected from, orcs? goblins?
Yeah this one was pretty dense, I was surprised myself too. I do have more fog photos, but I'm also waiting for the next fog to catch :D Follow if you want to see when the next part comes, or hopefully I'll get into the trending page with part 2!
I'm from Romania, Transylvania region which is protected by the Carpathian mountains. The weather is pretty good here, we don't have much wind or fog.
That is why I hate wind and every time I go abroad I'm in trouble with the wind :)
Very nice foggy images, @direwolfslair. I like such images very much, which you can see on my blog too ;)
This orange-blue toning of the photos give a interesting warm feeling instead of the mystic and often dangerous looking dark gray fog photos.
Ooohhh, these are great!
I think they'll look great in b&w too... ;)
