This spider likes to wear a fancy hat

Uda Dennie, 33-year-old photographer from Batam Island, Indonesia, photographs these little fellows in his own garden. His almost cartoonish macro photos portray the tiny arachnids among droplets that are almost as big as their heads.

Jumping spiders have four sets of eyes (yes, that means a total of eight eyeballs), and can jump up to fifty times their body length. These species have some of the best eyesight of all invertebrates, and unlike many spiders, they do not spin webs. Despite looking like stuck on beads, their eyes are incredibly complex and unique amongst spiders.

Their eyes are spaced evenly on either side of their head, giving them an almost 360° view around them. Their vision is so good, it’s unparalleled in any other animal their size. This means that often, they have the capacity to sneak up on their prey, knowing full well that the victim is unable to see them coming.

Some sub species such as Portia can even find hidden prey, suggesting that the it can visualise its prey's location and a path to get there. Who knew a spider with the brain the size of a sesame seed could be this smart and intuitive? And on top of this, they are just so cute! Look at those lil eyes!

More excitingly, people have found that these little creatures are able to pick up the beam of a laser and follow it, much like a cat would. A small study was conducted and they found that they responded to green light more so than red, so if ever you're in the situation of needing to entertain a Jumping Spider, grab a green laser beam. A video of it chasing it can be seen below:
