I was talking about breaking encryption on the blockchain not eavesdropping. It is not the same thing. If you can break the encryption or otherwise compromise the actual software you can do all sorts of things like a 51% attack - assuming I'm not misunderstanding it. Also eavesdropping itself may not give you anything extra but for anonymous cryptocurrencies you could unmask the source of transactions which may be of use. It all depends on whether aspects of the software is compromised or not.
