Catching up from 2019

in #life5 years ago

It’s been a while, so once again I’m doing an update/catch up.

I am now at university. Since my last posts a lot has happened. I got my P plates, got ready to go to police academy, lost a lot of friends, applied to university as a half-assed last resort, got into university, went to Tasmania, spent three sleepless nights learning about computers and proceeded to fix my parents’ PC for a bottle of Jack Daniel’s, studied and partied (mostly partied) all semester, had my first ever exams and now I’m here.

At the start of 2019 I had gotten in touch with the University of Adelaide about getting into uni but the entry method I’d been working on was no longer valid. This really bummed me out, but I looked for other methods and found the special tertiary admissions test (STAT). Unfortunately for this I had to be 18 at the time of the test, and I didn’t turn 18 until April. I started looking at other prospects and that’s when I found police academy. I went to a seminar, and spoke to some very inspiring people. I began sorting out my application when I found out that there was mid year entry to university, and I had a chance to take the STAT for semester two.

I prepared for the STAT by studying SAT prep books, but in the end found the preparation completely useless as the STAT was mainly common sense and knowledge. Around this time some long time friends of mine must’ve hit a rough patch. I got a phone call from their father accusing me of some pretty horrible things, my best guess is they were caught doing something bad and used me as a scapegoat. I never found out the truth, but that was a hard one to move on from. I ended up stopping my police academy application after that.

Soon after I visited some of my best friends that we homeschooled with when I was younger. They moved to Tasmania in 2013 and we hadn’t seen them since. It was a wonderful trip, and my only regret is that I was still dwelling on the incident that had just happened.

A week or so after taking the STAT I got my university acceptance letter. I was deep in day 10 of the flu at this stage, and I swear on my life that the happiness rush from the acceptance pretty much healed my flu in the next day or so. That was a good time. I was very productive in the lead up, I started learning about electronics and electrical engineering. My first week of uni was amazing, and I even caught up with a friend that I hadn’t seen in almost half a year.

I made my way through term and threw myself into my studying. I’d already lost some friends that were like family, and at the start of the semester my Tasmanian friend hit a rough patch. Throughout the semester I started to lose her, and while I try to be happy that they’ve found a different life it still hurts that I’m no longer part of theirs. This was one of my lowest and loneliest points, but I was lucky to find someone that I get along with better than anyone I have before. The amount of times we’ve said the same thing at the same time is insane, and also a little cringey.

Over the summer holidays I’ve finally been able to relax. My dad has had to move very far down south for work, so things in the house have been hard, but after the year I had in 2019 I know I can get through pretty much anything.

I’ve been studying biomedical science, and I want to major in microbiology & immunology and genetics. I passed my first semester after much self doubt, but I’m very excited to start on next year’s chemistry and biology. Soon I will be enrolling in semester 1’s subjects, and I hope to find the motivation needed to start writing again. Possibly more about my studies.

Welcome back :)

Owch those are some pretty tough things :S they happen unfortunately and there will be more like them (but hopefully not too many more) as I'm sure your parents have already told you. Other than that sounds like things are going really well :D And that sounds like a pretty standard first year at uni XD

Biomed sounds exciting :D Hope you have the time and inclination to write about it or anything else :)

Friends come and go, particularly at your age. I know one friend you made in 2019.
She wanted me to tell you she's going to school soon, and even has her black, schoolgirl shoes to go with her dress.

Aww, that's an adorable photo! What grade is she in now?

Just getting started. Used to be Reception, now it's Foundation
She's had a couple of transition days, and knows most of the other kids, from kindy, so I'm sure she'll be fine.
