Man made wonders of the 🌍

in #life7 years ago (edited)

I’m visiting Panama 🇵🇦 ( not FL) and it seemed impossible not to stop by the Panama Canal. To be honest I didn’t know much about Panama apart from its canal. The canal is pretty self explanatory but they have over 40 ships, like this that pass every day. It is surreal how much engineering (money/labor,etc..) went into this. I mean then again, connecting two oceans is a pretty ambitious task. The crazy part is there is no wiggle room. The canal is just wide enough to fit the size of the boat.
Anyway, it’s impressive and seems to be panama’s National pride.

A crash course in history. The French attempted to do this in 1881, failed. Americans took over in early 1900 and helped along with a bunch of other countries... They controlled the territory which seemed like a win win but after a lot of protests from Panamanians, a treaty was signed in 1977 which returned the occupied territory.
