The goal with much of the imagery was to suggest confusion rather than opening the pathways and triggering desired thoughts directly. Much like the first sentence of this comment. Does it mean this, or does it mean that? The more I look the more I see but it's not saying anything to me, it's my own thoughts drifting. Something like that...

The lines were more of a direct hit though, suggesting a bad addiction or something that seems okay but won't take people very far in life.
