Lawyers are the most irritating set of people I have ever come across. At times, I wonder if they are usually coached on strategic lying techniques at Law School. In August last year , to be precise, I was privileged to be in court. I was shocked to the marrow when a lawyer cooked up false stories just to defend his client. Lawyers? They are liars. All of them! The other day, I was...
HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!
If you still have this primitive mentality of generalizing traits based on a particular set of people, you need to wake up to reality. "Lawyers are liars" is a very popular saying but do you know that not all lawyers are liars?
I remember overhearing a conversation when I was still an undergraduate. " Girls of AkwaPoly especially from the department of mass communication are so wayward. Any girl signing out of school is travelling to a hotel to spend a night out with a man ". If you stay around my area, you must have heard this too but do you know that not all Akwapoly girls do that?
" All rich Igbo guys are ritualists "
But do you know that some of them make their money legitimately?
" All Yoruba girls are dirty "
But do you know that there are clean Yoruba girls?
" All ladies are pretenders "
But do you know there are good ladies out there?
" All men are cheats "
But do you know that there are some men that will not even touch you if you are not the wife?
" All Yorubas are respectful "
But do you know that some of them can insult you, your generation and your unborn generation in less than one hour?
Generalization is a cage. Get to know people for who they are because judging them based on the popular rumours said about people of the same tribe or profession with them will give you the wrong message. When you meet anyone, give them a chance to prove themselves. Get to know their personality and you will be amazed that there is still an Igbo guy making his money without rituals. Get to know that person and you will realise that not all men sleep around. Get to know that person and you will realise that generalizing is very wrong.
I once heard a case about a man who was badly treated by a woman in the past. At his office, he declined applications of people who were from the same tribe with her. He refused to employ anyone from her town. Why should innocent people suffer for your primitive mindset? You shouldn't judge them by the behaviour of someone else just because they are from the same origin.
I just felt the need to pen this due to what I have observed in recent times. Know people for who they are irrespective of their origin or profession.
You should have a rethink!
Thanks for your time!
