Aerial Dance is now, not only part of a circus act but a growing trend in the fitness industry as it offers a total body workout and is recognized as a dance form in its own right. If you want something different to help you obtain a well-conditioned body all over which is done by improving your balance, strength, flexibility, agility and you can overcome your fear of heights, I would strongly recommend you trying this dance style out. There are no age, gender or fitness restrictions, it is a style all can enjoy while getting strong and fit using your own body weight.

Aerial/Vertical dance is where the performer is suspended while thy explore space in 3 dimensions through movement, using a harness like rope or cable which is usually attached to the ceiling. This dance form like all others requires grace, skill, strength, stamina and determination. There are no safety lines, so the performer relies only on their own strength and skill which they gain through plenty hours of rigorous practices and training. The most popular apparatuses used for this dance style are: the trapeze, lyra (hoop), tissue (using fabric like silk, straps, chiffon and ribbon), hammock, robe and cube. This dance style integrates both floor and air movements together, using improvisation, expression and emotion. It can be done solo or with two or more partners.

In the “Aerial tissue” they use climbs, drops and wraps during their acrobatic dance performance in the air. With “Aerial lyra” the performer uses a metal hoop which can spin and swing while gracefully positioning their bodies in different flowing movements. When using the “Aerial hammock”, the performer uses cradle actions within the fabric of the hammock without support of hand grip and foot hold.

Some say that Trisha Brown was the first choreographer using this technique, pulling dancers into the air since 1968 but other recons Terry Sendgraff, were the first to discover this style of dance, introducing it in San Francisco on the eve of her 42nd birthday, 1975. Now you can take part in Festivals and championships held all over the world: In Brittany, France they have the “Les Rencountres Dance Aeriennea”, Aerial dance festival which was founded by Fred Deb in 2008; In Brighton, England they have the European Aerial Dance Festival every year; The International Aerial Dance Festival, in Boulder, Colorado is held in August every year; and many more.
Aerial yoga, incorporate both floor and air postures. In yoga, you will stay close to the floor while using the aerial apparatus with movements that are very much the same as the floor movements, still with the focus on breath and intention.
Hope this will inspire you to go out and try this dance form.
If I could do that at my age, I would be the most fittest person in the world. Wow, they are so flexible and strong but graceful! I couldn't get over the Tim & Taisia Straps Aerial Acroba. It was touching and beautiful and almost made me cry. Thank-you crazymumzysa for sharing this with us. It made my day!
Thank you cabbagepatch, when going through all the videos I thought they might touch my audience the most as their movements, emotions and expressions speak to the soul. Have a wonderful day my friend!
Very creative.
Thank you very much cryptolife1. They are, and the younger these performers are the more tricks they do and at a much faster speed.
You are really talented.Great moves @crazymumzysa
I might have been able to do this many years ago but unfortunately never had the chance. But I was fortunate enough to do and teach other dance styles. My young friend is into this dance style and that is what made me want to share this on steemit.
Interesting. You're doing great!
beautiful :')
Dang this looks amazing
You must see it in real life, close up. It is absolutely mesmerizing.
This kind of moves are very difficult to master but once your body gets used to the flexibility then experimenting and making new ideas alive in the arena for the dancers is a walk in the park @crazymumzysa
You sound like you are speaking from experience. They make it look like it is a walk in the park but I promise you it takes hours of practice. My friend was out for 3 months due to a foot injury.
Great Postures
Thanks for sharing

Naseerbhat, I wish it was my shots but if you look under each photo and video, you will see I give credit, which means I did not take the photos. I am truly sorry to disappoint you. Some advise: When you write a post do not copy and paste from other authors work, try to write it in your own words, your reputation will drop if you continue having the cheetah bot pointing out similar articles to yours.

Nice post. What are you interested in most? I teach Aerial, mostly to kids, but some adults too. I love everything static, as spinning is not my best skill.
Taught my first aerial yoga class in December and loved that too. In my mid forties so maybe aerial yoga will be my next big thing. keep telling myself i'll retire, but actually i'm fitter than i've ever been.
GOOOOOD POST!
I loved so much, I practice Aerial Silks and I love it, If I could I would practice more stiles of aerial dance, but I´m only one
I LOVE IT❤❤
