ORGANIC FARMING JOURNEY #8: MY ORGANIC TOMATO WITH FLOWERS AND FRUITS

in #life7 years ago (edited)

As a source of high-content Vitamin C, tomatoes also have other super beneficial nutrients. An ORGANICally grown tomato has higher antioxidant contents than those commercially grown which are sprayed with insecticides and pesticides, chemicals that are harmful to human body.

The excessive formation of antioxidants such as quercetin (79% higher) and kaempferol (97% higher) in organic tomatoes is the main reason why we choose to grow tomatoes organically as compared to commercially-grown ones.

SUPERFOOD

There are around 200 tomato plants in this garden I have setup which I decided to grow organically -- no synthetic fertilizers, no harmful pesticides or insecticides.

SUPER BENEFITS

Tomatoes offer these benefits, especially when eaten raw. Eating them raw preserves the nutrients and essential enzymes that promotes good health and nutrition to human body.

  1. IMPROVES VISION.

Vitamin A, which is rich in tomatoes is a powerful antioxidant that fights off free radicals in our body. Vitamin A prevents night blindness as well as macular degeneration. PHOTO CREDIT: http://www.odousinstrumentos.com.br/en/2017/07/05/eye-health-popular-beliefs/
  2. LOWERS HYPERTENSION.

The presence of potassium in tomatoes reduces the tensions in the blood vessels allowing increased blood circulation and lowering the stress on the heart. PHOTO CREDIT: https://www.thcmag.com/cannabis-treatment-for-hypertension/
  3. PREVENTS URINARY TRACT INFECTION (UTI)

The high water content in tomatoes stimulates urination and are a diuretic in certain ways. Elimination of toxins from the body increases, as well as excess water, salts, uric acid, and some fats! 4. COUNTERS THE BAD EFFECTS OF SMOKING

The coumaric acid and chlorogenic acid, tomatoes' two main components, fight against nitrosamines, which are produced in the body and are the main carcinogens found in cigarettes. Vitamin A content also reduces the effects of these carcinogens and can prevent lung cancer.

Other superb benefits of tomatoes are prevention of gallstones, good for digestive health, helps manage diabetes, and reduces cholesterol levels and protects the heart.

On top of all the nutrient benefits, home-grown just tastes SO MUCH BETTER! The flavors are richer, since you can pick them at the proper time - not days too earlier having them sit in trucks for shipping to stores. Happy growing!

Totally agree. I'm excited to pick the first fruit and just munch away ;-) thanks for sharing some words @steempowergarden. Cheers!

Great Post. Benefits explained really good. May I ask you, how many acres of agricultural land you have @cjclaro ?

Hi @onlineprds. I own no land but I do have neighbors who do and I asked them to let me till their land and do organic farming. This garden I set up is actually a demo garden for a fertilizer we are importing from Thailand, a nanotechnology-based plant food supplement, which is food-grade and chemical free.

Today we are putting up trellis to support the tomato plants as they grow and at the same time interplanting bitter gourd as an add-on crop. In this way, when I am done harvesting tomatoes, I have bitter gourd already growing. Keep in touch and I will post the progress of this project. Have a good day! ;-)

thanks for the detailed reply. I appreciate your efforts for organic farming. Expecting the progress.

Thanks for information.

You are most welcome, Sir!

How did you fertilize? And is there more photos of your plants? :D

Hi @wooly! I use organic fertilizers like quail dung as my nitrogen source and I have concocted my own EM and IMO to complement the growth, helping the soil loosen up and keep some fungi away.

Yes there are photos I have already posted here but I will post more as soon as the trellis is done today. The growth is excitingly great based on the reactions of people when they see the growth of the plants and when they know I have not used any synthetic fertilizer.

This is a demo farm and effectivity test for a product I import from Thailand which nanotechnology-based fertilizer, more like plant food supplement. More coming, keep in touch!

Excelent post! Thanks♥
