Idea: Steemit Alert - Sick of scammers and hackers getting away with even a single cent.

in #investments8 years ago (edited)

Hey guys, i'm not going to pretend I know how to code or anything, but i'm pretty sick of seeing these guys take over peoples account, or the scammers who try to use emotional black mail to make thousands..

This is my proposal.

We add a new system where potential scammers and hackers can be flagged.

It's fairly simple really, people would press the downvote flag and a prompt would appear "Downvote or Suspicious activity"

If suspicious activity is selected multiple times, depending on the value of the post thus far would determine with what speed it would be addressed. For example a post which has earned 4000 would be addressed much faster then a post that only has 23 so far.

(Those who mark posts as suspicious frequently or with bias could receive a voting power dip, or eventually even lose the ability.)

What do I mean by addressed?

Well, the second part of my idea is that we as Steemers should be able to elect "Guardians" just as we elect Witnesses. These guardians would be able to trawl through the activity which is flagged as suspicious, they could also have their own chat channel so they can discuss in detail the potential cases.

If 2/3 of active guardians reached consensus that something was suspicious they would be able to escalate it, which would put a temporary hold on the pending payout, meaning that the 24 hours required simply becomes indefinite as long as it's under review. They would also be able to contact the owner of the account via email if the owner decided to share that with guardians prior to the hypothetical hack on their account. This would allow them to acquire video verification of the true owner asap, and find out what the situation is.

What happens once it's escalated?

Once the Guardians escalate a case, it will then be forwarded to @dan, @ned as well as any other steemit staff, or users they/us wish to trust with this responsibility. It will then be upto them to handle.

I'm not sure if this is feasible but I hope it is.

This would allow the pressure to be taken off ALL of us, and vested into the hands of the small few who are truly qualified, trusted and capable of identifying such content. (It seems to me to be a small handful of people who identify this content before it's too late.)

This can be modified of course, again I have 0% coding or programming ability.

But what do you guys think, is this a good idea? could it even work properly?

I really hope we nail the security issues before we go "mainstream"

thanks for reading.

I already came up with a system. Just all go to #moderation #moderating #moderator #moderators #moderated #scams and see which place gets the most popular.

Ok great i'll check it out!

The weakest point within a system is often the social aspects. This is why the best and most efficient hacks are done when the hackers game the password recovery system and power is handed over to them.

I think your proposal might be a little over complicated.

To improve Steemit and avoid future account hacks is a lot more straightforward. Enable 2FA or allow supports from Google Authenticator, Trezor and Ledger Wallets.

Yeah I did consider that it was a little over complicated.

But I wanted to come up with a system that also dealt with the scammer/emotional blackmailers as well, as I believe that will always be a problem and will become more so once we go "Mainstream"

I also believe if we don't act before that happens we'll get a bad perception as a "scammy" place.

I don't think it has to be this system, I just wanted to add my 2 cents to the wider conversation on the issue.

I appreciate your comment :)

Why is this in investments :(
