I was up at 5AM and puttered around until my brother woke my sister to say goodbye at 5:30AM. She was leaving to drive back to NM on Friday morning. She decided to leave earlier than she had planned, around 6AM. So she got packed up and was sitting in the car setting the trip route on her smart phone. For some reason she turned the car off.
She had taken it earlier in the week to the Honda dealership to be checked before the trip back. They handed her a $1200 list of stuff to do. That wasn’t happening. But on the list it said the battery was low and they wanted to sell her a new one. But they never checked the fluid levels or the tire pressure, but they did try to get her to do a $190 alignment. She’d just had one before she left NM.
So my brother pumped up her tires to the correct pressure and she checked the fluids herself. But on Friday morning when she went to turn the car back on, it wouldn’t start. Sounded like battery to me. So I called AAA.
They arrived an hour later and determined that the battery was “toast” as he phrased it. It was only 8 years old. But the alternator and starter were fine. Because I’d told him the make and model and year, he’d picked up a good quality battery on his way over.
It was all charged up and he quickly swapped them and the car started right up. So she ended up leaving roughly the same time as she had originally planned, near 8AM. Then I got a call about an hour later, the phone was messing up directions badly. She finally got that sorted out and was again on her way.
Peace lily flowering again
In the meantime I’m frantically trying to clean the kitchen so we can finish feeding house plants when my helper friend arrived at 8AM. We got the plants done. I was pretty exhausted from the garden the day before and my helper friend wasn’t moving too quick either.
I had gotten ahold of the mulch hay guy and he called to say he would be here by 8:30AM. So we went out to unload the truck.
I wasn’t up to standing to do the ravioli, so we decided to try to get the bed back into the spare room upstairs.
Once that was done, I decided to finally get the winter clothes out and put the summer stuff away.
So I sorted out the summer stuff and we took it upstairs to the cedar closet. Then we started pulling bags out of the cedar closet and sorting out the winter stuff. We’d brought up a bunch of wicker baskets to carry it all downstairs.
Around 9AM the phone rings. I’d forgotten to do the milk order! So I had to go down and do that. Before I can get to my desk, the phone rings again, another milk order person reminding me! Sigh…
My helper friend had hauled the baskets down to my bedroom while I was doing the order. So we got them unloaded and everything put away.
Then we went back up and put everything back into the cedar closet. Someday I will have a small cedar closet on the first floor. Maybe someday I will fit into some of the clothes in the “Too Small” bags that are in the closet. Someday it will be better organized, right?
By the time we finished all this, I was too tired to do anything else. So I sent my helper friend to the store for lunch and supper stuff and sat down to try to write a post. I think I got another one up.
Newest sleeping place
After lunch, I sat down and ordered things like slippers, tights that actually might fit, Christmas presents, more sheets for the dehydrator so I don’t have to use the crappy ones, teas, and Christmas light bulbs.
After that I was too tired so I went to bed for a couple hours. I watched a Christmas movie until supper time and another after supper.
On Saturday I’m bound and determined to get caught up on my posts. I also hope to start the bills/budget, but we’ll see what my brain cell has to say about that.
It's good your sister got the car problems sorted out and made a safe travel back to NM, just at the time she planned. Your day was also a productive one as you did several important chores with the aid of your helper friend. I do hope you find time for ample rest this weekend. Thanks for writing.
It's great that your sister's journey back home was not unduly delayed as a result of the battery problem. Glad everything is gradually returning to normal.
I'm glad that at the end your sister's journey back to her base was a success.
8 years for a battery is quite a lot, i change it like every 4 years when it starts ruin to avoid problems

Hmmm... Cars and problems, good it was fixed on time and your sister was well on her way.
