Ragnarok X: High Wizard Shadow Equipment Guide: The Last Straw

in #hivegaming3 years ago

My High Wizard is almost halfway through to Level 65 and my upgrades have been going pretty strong for a Free to Play account. I have just breached the 7k Magic Attack and 2k Haste mark, so now I could wreak havoc with level 10 area spells! Oh, yea! Or so I think...

One of the key things that allowed me to get to where I am right now is the Shadow Equipment. That just goes to show how much of a leap you could get once you have unlocked and leveled up your Shadow Equipment.

Shadow Equipment

The shadow equipment will be unlocked once you reach level 40. To enable the shadow equipment option, first, you need to be in a guild. Once the shadow equipment quest will be available to you, you will be asked to enter your guild and pray at the valkyrie statue inside the guild.

The location is at the bottom right of your Guild Territory.

You should be able to choose the two-hand staff shadow to unlock or the Wand and Shield Shadow Unlock for the High Wizard.

There are key differences when you choose as there are upgrade-specific skills designated for the 2-Hand Staff Unlock and the Wand and Shield Shadow Unlock.

The suggestion will always be whatever you are using right now, but for the High Wizard, if you talk about the end game, the Wand and Shield definitely give the slight upper hand as far as overall damage and survivability go, simply because of the additional MPen Stats you could get for your Shield and simply because the Meteor Storm is a bummer right now.

You can only unlock one shadow at a time, transferring over to the other one would mean you would have to abandon your current progress and start over. But before you would be able to unlock the Shadow, you would need to complete 16 different quests out of 20. And this is what makes the Shadow Unlock a chore, but definitely worth it if you want to waste your time on this game, like me.

Here are the Quests that you could unlock...

Just like what I have stated in my previous post, it is essential to belong in a good guild because many of the "easier" quests to unlock would come from guild activities such as the GvG, KVM, Otherworld Gate. The rest you could get on your own.

Here are the quests that I chose to unlock as it was easier for me with the Guild Profile I had.

Upgrading Weapon to Lv. 100 - Your resources at this point will be dedicated here.

MVP Killer - 15 MVPs (1 Hit and wait for it to die and you are good)

Mini Killer (1 Hit and wait for it to die and you are good)

Guild Contribution- This is definitely something you could do every day, before you finish your other quests, you should have already unlocked this if you complete this every day.

Guild Orders - Much like guild contributions, you just keep going at it every day for 2 weeks, you'll be able to unlock this in time when you've finished your other quests as well.

GvG - Even if your guild does not join, you create a party and you join because this event is only scheduled once a week. Take that opportunity.

GvG Kills- Stay very near the entrance portal and cast your spells, go out from time to time and cast some more. When the players respawn in GvG their HP does not automatically become full, it is actually very low. And unless they pop a PvP potion right away, most of the players going out should have relatively low HP. You should be able to secure 1-2 kills every time you die. LOL.

KVM - This even it 3 times a week, so if you have a somewhat active guild or just an active party, participating in 45 games should be fairly easy.

KVM Wins - For all 45 games you will be participating in, I am sure there will always be a one-sided fight in your favor, this should be relatively easy, and frustrating at times when you meet whales in matchmaking.

Guild Level 3 - That is really up to the activity of the guild. I was really fortunate to belong to a somewhat active guild. We've gotten to Guild Lv. 3 when I unlocked my Shadow Quest.

Monster Killer (9999 Large 19999 Medium and 29999 Small) - You are going to be grinding your Odin's Blessings, just make sure you are choosing the appropriately sized monsters as you do this. You should be able to complete this relatively easily as well.

The cards that drop from the monsters below are valued highly, you might want to hit 2 birds with one stone with this quest.
Small - I'd say farm Andre (Ant Cavern),
Medium - Soldier Skeleton (Pyramid 1F)
Large- Marduks?

Leveling Up - Reaching Base Lv. 40 (I don't think I really need to guide you on how to do this)

Instance Clearance - You generally do 3 in a day. In 15 Days, you've already completed this. At this point, you could also already solo sewer normal, you can run that too and finish this in one day.

Otherworld Gate I - Battling Bosses 5 times in Otherworld gate is very difficult to unlock as you would need an active guild to be able to do this regularly. If you do not have an active guild, most likely you are not going to have active members, even if you do get the otherworld gate, being able to kill the bosses there would be tough to do as well.

Otherworld Gate III - If you have a strong group that could do the otherworld gate in your guild, Round 6 should be easy. We cleared this on our first Otherworld Gate open and we are only a somewhat active guild and not very geared when we did this.

****I'd want to forget about even completing refine and Otherworld II. Refine is just too expensive unless you are going to spend lots and lots of dough. In Otherworld II, you'd have an extremely active guild that is willing to spend so much on Guild Orders to even be able to unlock bosses frequently in OW which is highly unlikely if you are a budget gamer like me.*

Leveling your Shadow Equipment

If you thought the quests were a chore, this will also break your heart. So by now, if you have done the carnival, participated in the KVMs, GvGs, Ultimate Battles, and have done your Guild Orders, you should have saved up enough Shadow stuff to level up your entire Lv 1 Shadow Equipment.

Now, you Level Up your Shadow Equipment to Level 2, and you will need a handful of Lvl 2 Shadow Weapon to spend to even get a CHANCE to level your Shadow Weapon up to Lv 2 and so on and so forth. And it gets expensive, and it gets more difficult to upgrade. Before you know it, you are stuck again! Go WHALES!

Conclusion

In Ragnarok X, the Shadow Equipment is one of the keys to getting competitively powerful in this game. You would never be able to compete without it, simply because of how much bonus damage you could get from the Shadow Equipment. But the path to unlocking it is just terrible yet satisfying once done, the boost is definitely noticeable right away and the only way to go about the cost to level it up is really to divert your attention to the other upgrades until you slowly accumulate the materials to level it up with prayer.

Ragnarok has definitely continued to light up my nostalgia for the game, but there is no way in hell would I be able to compete with the rest of the players if I don't spend. It is just impossible. Getting an MVP as a High Wizard is near impossible without time, money, and dedication.

This rant might be the last time I would be talking about Ragnarok X, let us see how the tide would bring us, I am smelling Pokemon Unite...
