Making Paper Snowflakes Lesson from a Friend

in Home Edders14 days ago (edited)

I've never before had a lesson on making paper snowflakes, but last night, a friend invited us over to make snowflakes with her. She walked us step by step through the process! It's actually quite simple and really fun!

Yes, this is our friend who has indoor pet goats, and who invited us to celebrate Boo's Birthday back a few months ago. Here's fair warning that Kat's birthday is this weekend, and you know I'm going to document it! Anyway, back to the snowflakes. She had decorated the table with them before we arrived, and she told us her mom taught her to make them with this method years ago!

She showed us all how to make them and we were off to make our own! It was a really fun activity that I highly recommend!

Step number one is to fold the paper so that you have a square - cut off the bottom.

Step two is to mark the middle of the square by folding it in half and creasing just a little bit.

Now fold both of the sides into the center as shown above. It kind of looks like an ice cream cone. You're folding the sides up to the middle mark.

From this point, fold it in half so you have a skinny ice cream cone.

Cut the top off. Whatever shape or design you use here will be what is between each point of the snowflake. You can cut it off straight, at an angle, or even a wavy line! The more creative, the cooler the snowflake looks.

Take your scissors and start cutting shapes into the folded paper. The more cuts, the more design the snowflake will have. Make sure you cut the point so the snowflake will have a center hole. Also, don't cut all the way from one side to the other.

Your snowflake will look something like this at the end of cutting all the designs out of it.

The last step is to open it up and see your design! I love how each one is unique! It's fun for kids of all ages. My youngest daughter colored hers all different colors, but it would be fun to do them on colored paper as well! Be creative! I'd love to see any creations you guys make! I plan to have my kids make more and put them up on the windows!
