20 lt

The curious faces of the clerks were disappearing in the shadows and the windows of the town hall were closing, one after another. A camera on a tripod, a small aquarium on a pedestal and a weird guy carrying cans with water, isn't something that the average public servant wants to deal with!

Anyway it was too early in the morning for arguments and no-one interrupted us. Not that we were doing anything extreme. It was just one of the many pictures that we were taking around the town as part of an art project.

Not the pictures that I am showing to you, those are the "behind the scenes" ones, taken as mementos and illustration for a potential post, no other than the one I am writing right now!

The artist of this work is the one featured in the pictures, I was merely helping out with my photography skills but it was a fun collaboration. The communication was perfect and I found it very liberating to execute clear and accurate instructions from someone that knew exactly what he was asking for. The fact that he is also a good friend, probably helped too :)

Let me tell you one more time that all those colour pictures that you see, are not part of the art work, they are just my view of the three days that we spent carrying the installation, interacting with bystanders and taking pictures at the selected spots.

Three days for 12 pictures that were meant to visualise the concept of the artist. Twelve photographs edited in a monochrome style, printed in A4 and presented as a whole, behind the very same installation that we were carrying all over the town.

The name of the art work is "20 lt" and the water pouring into the aquarium, is sea water taken from a big sandy beach just outside the town. The work is a protest against the selling of the public beach to a private hotel chain and along with 13 more artworks, it was part of an exhibition with the same objective that took place in July under the name "ΚΑΡΑΘΩΝΑ project" (ΚΑΡΑΘΩΝΑ is the name of the beach).

The pictures that we took are the ones above and the art work at the exhibition can be seen below. That last photo is from a local newspaper.

I don't have very often the opportunity to be involved in an art project, actually it has been years since the last one, let alone having a small, active part! I meant to photograph all the exhibition, there were very interesting works in it but summer got in the way and the days passed without even realising it. At least I was at the opening night and have kept it in my memories.

All the pictures and the words are mine.

I find it very interesting! Also in Italy we have this huge problem.

I guess it happens, sooner or later, to all the touristic places.

Thank you for stopping by and for your support!

Very good! And, is there any hope that this project on the beach will be stopped? How terrible...

Thanks!

Judging from other similar protests, demonstrations and whatever fights to stop the selling of public property, they can only delay but not stop them.

What unfortunate policies! 😩
