Lake, Incoming

It's that time of year again, when the patriotism types do their damndest to terrify every animal in a twenty mile radius and the yard gets fertilized with firework fragments. On the positive side, it's the one time of year when most of the booms you hear aren't gunfire, but it still makes me twitchy.

Been on the stormy side the past couple days which has put a damper on things a bit but I'm sure folks will make up for it over the long weekend. We're not sticking around to find out though, going to light out tomorrow for Cave Run Lake, do us a little lakeshore camping.

Just outside Morehead, Kentucky in the eastern part of the state, the lake is only an hour or so from where I grew up but somehow I've never managed to visit it before. Will be remedying that this weekend and it looks like we're even going to get a break in the weather for it, with highs only in the 80s (F).

These photos aren't of the lake, they're from another place I recently visited for the first time, Caperton Swamp here in Louisville. It's right across the road from the Ohio River, which occasionally comes to visit. The lake we're going to was created by damming the Licking River so I'm hoping we'll find some equally nice scenery.

Hopefully there's less poison ivy though, aside from a few places we could just peek at the water, it was too well protected in most places by a moat of flourishing poison ivy to approach.

Still got some packing to do, so I'd better hop off here and get that done before it's time to make tracks. Will harass y'all further when we return, until then stay safe and try not to start too many fires.

4th of July is my least favorite holiday. Each boom reminds me of just how many idiots there are out there!
I hope you find some quiet at your camping spot.... And that it is poison ivy free!

Ha, yep. And there's way too many of them in much too close proximity.

Thank you, got my fingers crossed!

I totally get the twitchiness with fireworks hehehe. Hope the lakeshore camping brings you some peace and beautiful scenery good friend
