Hike to secret beach

Ahoy

The next morning, we met up with Alex and Nixie, ready for a hike. They had been here before and knew where to go. The trail was about 4 kilometers, winding up and down through the jungle. We were promised coconuts at the end of the trip. Along the way, we saw huge ants, butterflies, and a lost hat. Walking through tall grass felt like a scene from a horror movie.

When we arrived, we met Juan, an older man who has lived there alone for the last 50 years. If you visit Chacala, this place is a must-see. Bring some beers or tequila for Juan as a gift, since he takes care of the place. The beach and reef are incredible, and we had it all to ourselves.

We snorkeled around the reef, enjoying the clear water. On windy days, it’s a great spot for surfing. Juan lives with just a few solar chargers, a hammock, and a gas stove, and he seems very happy.

After a few hours in the water, we decided to hike back. Nixie had lost her T-shirt on the way there, so we turned the hike back into a treasure hunt to find it.

When we returned, Alex brought out his hookah, a handy tool for cleaning the boat’s bottom. It was my first time using it, and I really enjoyed it—probably because I missed my snorkeling tours in the Caribbean, where I used to work as a tour guide on a charter catamaran. The water in Chacala was so clear I could see all the barnacles that needed to be removed to help our boat move faster. Took me around 2 hours to clean it.

Our friends from La Cruz were heading to San Blas the next day. It was time to plan our trip 22 nautical miles north to meet them. San Blas is said to be a paradise for surfers, mosquitoes, and crocodiles.

Další den ráno jsme se setkali s Alexem a Nixie na pláži a vyrazili na túru. Trasa byla asi 4 kilometry z kopce a do kopce džunglí. Byly nám slíbeny kokosy na konci cesty, které jsme nikdy nedostali, protože je konec sezóny a moc lidí tam nechodí. Viděli jsme obří mravence, motýly a našli klobouk. Uprostřed džungle byla krátká procházka vysokou trávou, což vypadalo jako scéna z hororu.

Na konci nás čekala nádherná pláž bez lidí, až na jednoho staršího muže, Juana, který tam žije sám už 50 let, jen s pár solárními nabíječkami, hamakou a plynovým sporákem a vypadá velmi šťastně.

Šnorchlovali jsme a konečně jsem viděla ryby po šesti měsících. Je to skvělé místo na surfování.

Po pár hodinách ve vodě jsme se rozhodli vrátit. Nixie ztratila tričko, takže cesta zpět byla jako hledání pokladu.

Po návratu Alex mi půjčil “hookah”, užitečný nástroj pro čištění dna lodi. “Mé poprvé” a překvapivě mě to bavilo, asi proto, že mi chybělo potápění v Karibiku, kde jsem pracovala jako průvodce na katamaránu. Voda v Chacale byla tak čistá, že jsem viděl všechny mušle, trávu, které bylo třeba odstranit, aby naše loď plula rychleji.

Zítra plánujeme zvednout kotvy a vyrazit za dalšími přáteli do San Blas (22 námořních mil na sever). San Blas je prý rájem surfařů, komárů a krokodýlů.
