Happy weekend and welcome to week 286 of the weekend-engagement concept...in case you're wondering, that's 2002 days this concept has been running. A lot? Maybe, but not as much as it will be in the future.
We're well into the sixth year of the weekend-engagement topic concept and it's really cool to see a few people come back every week and join in. If you'd like to get involved with the #weekend-engagement topics as hosted in the WEEKEND EXPERIENCES community then read below, and I hope you all have a great weekend.
A reminder, the tag to use is
weekend-engagementand you'll need to follow the rules I've set out because I'm inflexible with stuff like that.

- What have you wished you could forget but cannot? Explain.
- My biggest fear is losing the memory of my life as often happens as one ages (my dad had dementia). Do you have the same fear and if so what things would you least like to forget and why?
- In time (maybe two generations after you're dead) you'll be forgotten, it'll be like your life never existed...but what would you like to be remembered for? Explain.
- What's your fondest memory from the year 2000 - if you weren't alive or old enough to remember it then don't answer this topic. Explain the the memory and why it's your fondest from that year.
- Explain why your life has been a waste to date and what you might do to improve it.

Sometimes I also think how much dementia will I have when getting old... Memories are what make us, but without? An empty shell... That's also why I print all photos, that can't be erased and maybe they will help remember in case
And that quote is so damn true
Great quote huh? One to think about and remember.
It happens to me, I think it's because it's easier to forget nice and good things, but it's easier to remember what hurted us
For sure, and that's the mindset we need to flip around. Embracing the nice things and putting aside the not so nice things can help clear the path towards a happier and healthier (emotionally and mentally) life. Holding on to and focusing on the bad will only bring more of it.
We gravitate towards that which we think about the most.
Very interesting topics this weekend, I spent some time thinking about them and how no one will remember me in two generations... how much I have forgotten, especially as a child and I would like to remember, happy details. It's going to be a thoughtful publication, I think.
Thank you and have a great weekend! I'm planning mine!
I'm hopeful of seeing some really good, non bland and boring, posts this week. The topics give people a lot of scope I think.
I hope so! The themes are great and even take me back to the year 2000, a lot to think about and remember.
G'day, proposals very present in everyone, I have the experience of my father with very advanced Alzheimer's, he is already in a hospice, it is very hard for the family.
Yes, it's quite difficult for all concerned, the one suffering the affliction and he family as well.
I think the quote from Commanc McCarthy is brilliant and closely related to this week's topics.
I like all the topics, all of them. And this thing about memory is extremely important, and the quote at the beginning of your post demonstrates the mysteries of human memory.
That's why keeping your brain busy, doing physical exercise and other activities that develop brain cells are essential to avoid problems of this kind.
It's true that with age you forget some things. For example, I've recently had a few episodes like this and, to be honest, they make me feel really bad.
Finally, I would like to ask you the following question because I do not want to break the rules and be silenced:
Can I combine two or more topics?
If I can, I would do so without making the post too long.
If not, I will choose one topic and participate.
Have a great weekend.
Cheers and best regards.
No worries, you can combine two topics if you'd like to.
Have a good weekend.
Thanks you very much. Blessings
I had goosebumps while reading this question, expecially the question about what I would be remembered for....like I still feel i haven't figure out everything yet in my life let alone impart in others for them to remember me when I am more. I wish I can wake up after am gone for few moments to hear what people would remember me for...
Once you die, there's no coming back so I guess it's important to leave a legacy when you can.
My grandfather at times used to forget who we are or where he is. That seems like a terrible fate. Still I am not sure what would be worst: losing my memory/ mind or getting paralysed. I think that both those scenarios are equally bad. My memory is already weird. Without photos I don't remember how my dad or grandparents looked. And I think that I would have very hard time describing how my mother or our neighbours look. But when I see them I still recognise them so it is not that bad. Not remembering who are my closest people or even who I am would suck. I think that being paralysed is self explanatory...who would want to be trapped in bed?
Do you do anything to try to improve your memory?
I try to memorize some passwords. Sometimes I remember them well. But sometimes I have to look them up. also some years ago I liked solving crosswords.
There's memory exercises to help, you should look some up.
You have a beautiful sky there 😀
Leads me to some philosophical reflections, what are the topics, but one for us 25+ is the most interesting to me 🙂
We'll see what happens 🙂
Let's see what happens huh?
Happy weekend everyone good to have you here again. Loosing a memory is a terrible thing that old people go through, not a good experience at all
Happy weekend.
Thanks you too
I've never really considered dementia as much of a fear because I am usually more focused on cancer, a stroke, or an aneurism. That stuff scares the piss out of me.
Yeah, none of it is good, most of us will have to face it in one way or another.
I have a huge weekend ahead of me that will most likely make me miss this deadline but those are some fun prompts to consider! Have an awesome weekend!
Par for the course, I think you've only made the deadline once in the past. Have a good weekend, that's more important.
Happy weekend! Thank you for bringing up this topic, which is very close to my heart, as I'm in my senior years and terrified of losing my memory. Remembering is reliving. Memory is our history. What you mentioned at the beginning often happens.
“You forget what you want to remember, and you remember what you want to forget.”
🤗
Have a good weekend.
Hi @galenkp I always read your weekend topics and feel so interested for them everytime. I want to write sometimes but I just need more honesty than I could give to myself which leads me to not writing about them. But this week's topic is so interesting I couldn't bear to miss it. Especially the topic 1. There are things we have already done or that have already happened to us that are beyond our control, and sometimes even if we want to forget about them, our mind just cannot. I thought of a topic about the friendship I had during 2020 with this minister guy. Maybe I can write about that friendship for this weekend. Anyway, have a good day and see you around❤️
No worries, have a good weekend.
Happy start to the weekend!. Wow, these questions have really got me thinking, especially the first four. I love that this edition focuses on memories; let's see how good our memories are as a community, hahaha...
We'll see what those people take the time to create a post come up with.
