It's been a very long vacation for my kids, and on the 9th of this month, they will be returning back to school for a fresh session. Two months of staying at home with me came with lots of bonding and some family time. I got to know my kids the more; we learned a lot together, and I am quite impressed with the outcome, with one more important event to happen just before the resumption. I promise to share it here with you all. If not for their troubles sometimes, hehehe, I feel like the holiday should be extended so we can conclude most of the project we started at home, but indeed, there's time for everything. Hopefully, we have more quality time on the next vacation.
So today was dedicated to back-to-school shopping 🛒🛍️ for my kids. I left my home so early to the market with the list of important items to shop for them. To start with,my country's economy has been getting bad each day to the point that some parents have decided to do homeschooling for their children due to their inability to foot the current cost of school fees. I was speechless receiving this term school fees bill—, very terrible and more than double of what we used to pay. There's a current increase in fue price in my country, and that affected school bus transportation fees as well. As if that wasn't enough, getting to the market to buy these items, the prices were tripled,ed and it was really a concern!
It's surprising to know that I spent about $90 just to get these few items you see up there. Indeed, our economy is nothing to write home about. Before now, $30 should be enough to get those kids school items, but it's what it is now. All I pray for everyone is God's favor to meet up with the world's economy.
Aside from the kids school accessories, there's the need to also shop for their snacks and drinks since they spend many hours each day in school. This aspect is also not in any way so affordable these days. I spent more than I budgeted because, obviously, it's beyond my control. Just little items in total, and $150 was gone.
The academic materials are also important sessions to look into; sadly, their prizes have all gone up, and I was left with no other choice but to carry my cross.
This period is quite unusual for me and my husband. Obviously, the expenses are becoming more than our income due to the present economy. Education is a great gift I can give my children. Unfortunately, our economy is turning upside down; however, it's only a time to double up our commitment to ensuring that the kids get the basic needs they deserve.
Parenthood is indeed a journey that comes with lots of sacrifices for our children, but as long as we continue to do our best for the good of the children, I believe it will be worth it in the end!

Honestly, the hike in prices of things in Nigeria is alarming. Imagine spending over 200$ for school preparation. School fees, textbooks and transportation aside. It is well!
Sometimes I ask how we got here but it's what it is...more hustling to suit the situation
