Location of Leisure
Chaguaramas is located in the north western part of Trinidad and is the location where all the huge parties or fetes are held. It is quite the leisure location with water parks, boating activities as well as some of the best hiking trails as you may have seen in some of my previous posts. Today we visit the Chaguaramas boardwalk as well as another secluded beach lower down from it to capture some breathtaking sunset shots!
We parked in the car park across the road from the boardwalk itself. It was quite empty as it was during work hours on a weekday, the best time to visit! We are at work technically as well! Usually on weekdays and holidays the place is jam packed with people and vendors! You know its a party town when there is a public sign cautioning people about drinking alcohol and driving and about staying alive.
After crossing the road to the boardwalk itself, I could hear and see the waves as they gently hit the concrete walls. Still, even with the lack of patrons at these hours, there were vendors around here and there selling drinks, snacks and beach toys such as the donut floatation devices you can see in the photo above.
Here is a wide view of the boardwalk. This was recently built as part of the development program of Chaguaramas. Before there was just a regular old sandy beach with trees and it seemed kind of mindless to build an elevated planked walkway and cover up the natural beauty but I must admit, since then, the place does look a lot nicer, especially at night with beautiful ambient lighting that makes it feel a lot safer to take a leisurely stroll.
I sent up the drone to see what I could find and to also get a nicer aerial view of things. I immediately saw large ships as well as a better view of the surrounding industries that were also located in the party central. These would include the aluminum plants as well as subsidiary oil companies that operated in the country taking advantage of our natural energy resources.
Here is a nice wide aerial view of the whole boardwalk for the crescent of Williams Bay. This Bay alone is home to many attractions including Skallywag bay, a theme park right on the boardwalk as well as large restaurants and bars that are spread out along the crescent. There are also jetties for leisure craft to be left while boaters visit the bars and restaurants.
Going higher and facing the same direction, you can get a great view of the rest of Chaguaramas that spreads westwards along the coastline. You can see a bar and restaurant with a pool on the on the bottom right. Higher up on the right side as well, you can see the Five Islands water park. It is quite minuscule though. It is called Five Islands as just offshore from here are 5 small islets that are also visited for large parties, vacationing and other leisure activities. They are so close, kayakers paddle to them from the boardwalk all the time!
Turning eastwards, I got a nice all encompassing shot of the Skallywag Bay themepark! You can see in in the top left of the above shot. By the way, the red paved pathways you see in the photos next to the roadways are biking lanes for recreational biking and not sidewalks! Skallywag bay has all manner of rides and amusement machines as well as other awesome activities and foods.
This is a closer shot of the entrance to the boardwalk and where we parked across the road. You can see that the engineers did indeed leave a bit of the natural beach sand in the corner here maybe for boat landing purposes or for the actual use of the public as well, who knows!
Here is one of the jetties that is used to park private boats to get to the bar and restaurants. I cannot imagine how it must be to be able to have you own boat! I will buy a nicely size yacht soon to explore the Caribbean! I just loved how the water color and the captured texture looks here!
Next, we headed not too far lower down westwards from the boardwalk to St. Peters Bay. The sun was setting much lower now and casted a golden light that was so beautiful on the surroundings as well as the road. This bay is well known for being a great relaxing fishing spot.
It is also a where a lot of people anchor their yachts in nice strait lines. It is quite nice to look at from aerial as well as ground angles. You can see how amazing the golden hour lighting looked on the hills that surrounded the bay as well as the emerald green waters.
Some children were playing in the extremely calm and tranquil waters as they whispered upon the shores. You can see the girl staring off into the distance at the boats parked in the bay.
Here is another playing in the waters as they fell upon the shore. The water was so calm it way as well be a pond. You can gauge by the size of the wave crest in the above photo. I just loved how the sunlight interacted with the water and it looked like it was lit afire!
The bay itself became more and more alluring as the sun got closer to the horizon. You can see the other side of Chaguramas in the shot above facing Pointe Gourd, a location I did an article about recently!
I could not get enough of the water that was such a beautiful emerald green on this side of the island. Unlike in Tobago or Curacao, beaches in different parts of Trinidad have characteristic colors so much so that you can tell where you are based just on color of the waters!
Chaguaramas always leaves us with a relaxed and recharged feeling no matter what we visit the town to do! I still have yet to do an article on the Five Islands water park but it will be up soon! Williams Bay and more beautifully, St. Peters Bay were both breathtaking in their own way! The photos were more than satisfactory and some local entities ended up using some of my shots I got on that day to promote tourism and showcase Chaguaramas! Thanks a lot for coming along, Cheers!
This is a great place relax especially this time of the day when the sun is about to set.
That little girl really enjoyed the calmness of the water.
