Argentina - A walk through an open-air museum in the middle of the mountains: Carved Forest surrounded by snow. 😃❤️

Coming to El Bolsón in the winter season was something I was very excited about. I had already spent two and a half months in this town during the summer, but I was still looking forward to seeing it in its cold weather. Our three-week trip in the motorhome was in the middle of July, right in the middle of the snow season in the south of Argentina. Luckily for us, there was already a considerable amount of snow accumulated in the mountains at that time, which allowed us to enjoy the whitish landscapes. One of the most beautiful walks we took was to the Carved Forest, on the way to Piltriquitrón Hill, which I found even more beautiful than in its summer season 😃.

Cerro Piltriquitrón is the most beautiful mountain in El Bolsón and all its postcards are characteristic. You cannot leave this town without climbing it, no matter if it is the summit, its mountain refuge, the carved forest or even its paragliding take-off platform. This mountain is very accessible since you can reach this last place in a private vehicle, taking the precautions that a gravel road needs. It is worth doing the 14 km that separate this mountain from the village 🥰.

In the summer my friends from the hostel and I had done half of this trail on foot, and then climbed the remaining 5 km to the top of the mountain. Of course, at the beginning of the year the landscape was different, all clear and with just a little snow at the top. This time in July, snow and mud from the snowmelt were present, so it was quite difficult to walk up. To save us all the way up to the platform we hired a 4x4 vehicle service that for $14 each took us at noon and picked us up at dusk ❤️.

If you wish to climb Cerro Piltriquitrón, starting from the paraglider launching platform, a one kilometer uphill path awaits you until you reach the carved forest. This road has a drop of about 200 meters, which can be a bit hard if your physical condition is not good. However, it is not impossible and worth a try, as the views along the way are also worth it 😊.

Doing this route quietly and stopping to take pictures can take a little less than an hour. In summer with the terrain all dry we climbed pretty fast, but this time the snow and mud complicated things a bit. Anyway, we all made it safely to the entrance of the carved forest 💕.

Those whose objective is to visit the mountain refuge or the summit of Piltriquitrón usually skip the visit to the carved forest: even this is what I did on my summer visit. As some of the carvings are visible from the outside I thought it would not be necessary to go in, but as this time the plan was shorter, I decided that I wanted to see all the carvings that this forest has to show ❣️.

This forest, which they call an open-air museum, has more than 60 wooden sculptures carved by different artists from Argentina and also from some neighboring countries. Visiting the forest has a fee of $1.5, and walking the entire path with the sculptures can take a little more than half an hour. Out of my whole group of friends only one besides me wanted to see the forest, so we walked the whole trail together 😄.

While the forest is beautiful because every culture is special, in the winter season the place seemed magical. The combination of snow, wood and mountains was incredible. There were a lot of very nice sculptures, some figurative and some abstract, each one with its corresponding description and author's name. I was surprised to see that some of them were more than 20 years old but still kept in perfect condition 😊.

This is a walk designed for families with children, but I loved visiting it. Maybe in summer it would disappear because it is so camouflaged in the forest, but in this winter and with the snow it looked simply magical. I want to dedicate this post to my friend @numa26, who was interested in this place the day I visited it: I hope you like the rest of the photos ❤️.

I was very pleased to have visited the forest surrounded by snow: when I decided not to enter in the summer, I did not know that I would have a second chance to see it in the winter. Walking among all those sculptures was amazing, and for the price we paid, the experience was more than good. Now, having seen a bit of this place in both seasons, I can say that my favorite is winter. I hope that if someday you walk around El Bolsón you won't miss this place, and I hope you like it as much as I do 💕.

A beautiful mountain and landscape with nice sculptures I imagine the cold weather in the area.

What amazing placer👀🔥

Debo decirlo, me encantaría visitar éste lugar.

It's very pleasant, the place is extraordinarily beautiful, I am very entertained to see it❤️

El Bolsón is such a beautiful place that you can visit it at any time of the year, since it is a place with a lot to see, but without a doubt, in winter you see really beautiful snowy landscapes.
I had the opportunity to see most of the posts you published about this place and the photographs you share of the winter there are magical

I think that the next time you visit the place you have to go on a paragliding adventure and you will have achieved something wonderful

Without a doubt the carved forest is an open-air museum, you have taken beautiful shots of the sculptures emerging from the snow

Have a beautiful weekend dear friend @lauramica

The carvings pop up because of the white snow backdrop. It's really nice to have these creations from different artists in one place. Now Im curious behind the story of each carvings. Do they have descriptions attached to them?
