A passing whirlwind unexpectedly carried me to a small town, and I instantly felt like I had entered another world.
It wasn’t just a place on the map, but a real fairy tale that enveloped me with every step. Like in a city where mysticism flourishes, where local Romanians and gypsies preserve their ancient traditions, I felt that time here moves slowly, as if frozen in its magical movement. When I had problems with housing, and I left in the car to solve it with the support of Airbnb, but turning around for a second, my eyes caught an amazing combination of colors, and literally couldn’t tear themselves away from their point of view.
The multi-colored buildings scattered along the streets beckoned me like a magnet. They were so bright that I couldn’t help myself — all I wanted was to see them, to photograph every detail, every part of this picturesque city. After all, I am simply a fan of colorful buildings! Nothing fascinates me more than these miniature picturesque cute houses, each of which is a different color and a different structure.
They were as if created to give joy and impressions. And this became my weakness. Walking through the streets of Sighisoara, I felt the magic of this place penetrate into the very soul. The whole village seemed to be enveloped in a mysterious aura that spread in the air, giving the feeling that you had fallen into another time, into the Middle Ages. The city looked like it was from another world, where the sun brightly illuminated the narrow streets, covered with colored cobblestones that reflected its rays, creating a play of light and shadow.
It was a place where even the simplest houses seemed extremely magical thanks to their bright colors. Shades of yellow, blue, green and red - all these colors merged into one harmony, adding to the feeling of a picturesque fairy tale, where each building had its own story. Sighisoara, with its peculiar buildings and streets, seems to live its own rhythm, where the past is intertwined with the present, and every corner of this town looks as if it was transferred from a map of the ancient world.
There was also one barber shop where the sign in the shape of a mirror, already shabby and rusty, really seemed to have remained from those medieval times, as shown in these retro films.
It felt as though a gallant gentleman in a neat suit might step in at any moment and say: "Sir, I need a haircut!"
From the lower part of the city to the old part on the hill, a steep street, dotted with sunny shades, led. Walking along this street, which led in particular to the clock tower, I felt how everything around me came to life.
The street was paved with cobblestones, and every step created a melodious sound.
On both sides of me were these amazing houses with multi-colored facades. Like an obsessed addict, I kept capturing every inch of the historic facade of these buildings through my camera, unable to tear myself away. At the same time glued to each other, stood side by side, they didn't mix, but clearly contrasted, creating an unreal spectrum of colors and an almost surreal impact on the mind, especially on such an impressive one as mine. And this fanatical activity continued until I pressed my face against the foot of the first arch that let me through the entrance to the gray, especially enchanted space of the aura of Count Dracula himself.
Having passed through this first arch, a clock tower appeared in front of me, standing majestically calm and unmoving, sighing. Passing through the second arch, you officially entered the old part of the town on the highest hill.
Immediately after entering, the most famous yellow house in which Count Dracula himself lived stood in front of me, but everything inside at the moment was a restaurant and souvenir shops and I was not interested in going there.
Much more interesting was the entire surrounding area, the general area of the old city. There were wide squares with equally colorful houses, which seemed to echo each other as tourists gazed at them. These old wooden shutters added such charm. It was like Bavarian times, this style of houses, these lanterns, the pendants were multi-colored, also very interesting was the deer on the building whose antlers looked up into the sky. One of the buildings wasn't super impressive but it had the Romanian flag on it so I wanted to capture a shot like that.
One of the most interesting moments for me was the tunnel, the entrance to which was completely closed by a black arch, but through it still broke through the light, which beckoned and promised new discoveries. It was a very long, steep staircase that led to the highest point of the city.
Walking on them was very difficult that my legs almost fell off, but it was just as exciting - as if you were ascending to a better space, like heaven. But what is often a harsh reality, at the end there were only two musicians not waiting for you, who are not happy that you are filming them without throwing money into their hat. And after descending from the black arch, I headed down the street again to admire the surrounding architecture.
These orange colors warmed the soul, the domes filled with autumn light struck the very heart. In general, everything was gorgeous, the colors shimmered with each other. There was their main square, which also had a very large number of spectacular multi-colored buildings, with such an autumn Halloween vibe, all sorts of pumpkins, candles, orange decor, and in general, everything was saturated with such colors.
And also for me the most spectacular was the view of the whole city. The fog that enveloped the city at sunset added additional mystery to the atmosphere, and the colors of the streets and houses, as if framed by autumn leaves, acquired reddish shades.
And it was especially nice to look at the landscapes and take photos in the accompaniment of magical unrealistic chrysanthemums or other flowers that were located along the entire perimeter of a special wooden terrace, probably an observation terrace, from which you could also see the yellow palace and the clock tower.
Sighisoara made a lasting impression on me. It felt like a living organism, where every stone and every building has its own story. All these elements together create an atmosphere where mystery is intertwined with beauty, and time seems simply endless. The Romanian pearl will remain in my memory as a town that is impossible to forget.
Thank you so much for sharing so many pictures, I feel like I have visited the town and already know every corner ❤️ I really liked how colorful Sighisoara is, and I too am drawn to it like a magnet, I am usually the type of person who gets distracted from the group and walks away mesmerized when something captures my attention. Impressive how you found so many special corners and surely more were missing, but you have captured the essence and saved beautiful photographic memories for posterity, you sure enjoyed this visit...
I really appreciate you for such a detailed and truthful analysis, I really tried very hard and I tried to make the most extensive and detailed review of everything. I put so much effort into taking pictures of every corner on a frosty day, you captured it so well, thank you for your kind words🙏🏻💕
That town could use a little more loving and tourists. From some angles it almost looks like some old Spanish town in an impoverished part of the Caribbean, then I realized it's in the center of Romania. Must be a really interesting part of the world to explore especially as the country developes.
I have no idea, I've never been to Spain, maybe it's similar 😃
What a picturesque place, a delight for the eyes with so many nice colors, excellent publication greetings. @bugavi
