I had to go out today, and this is one of the longest amount of time I’ve ever spent in the sun. The last time I spent so much time exposed to the sun was during my National diploma days when we were always walking from one end of the school to the other, going from lecture hall to practical lab, trying to find out what new thing that we’d be learning that day.
It was never an easy thing because everything about it was stressful. We didn’t have enough money for bike then, everything we had was restricted to either food or taking care of our textbooks and other more important bills. However, things like taking bikes and buses was a luxury at the time.
So, the sun always beat down on us. It did it relentlessly and without remorse as if we had done something to warrant its wrath. Walking under the scorching sun, not going home, but going to a lab or lecture hall that we know has no air conditioning, or a lab without a good ventilation system, knowing that where we’re going to would be as hot as an oven, yet we’d still carry ourselves there like sheep to slaughter.
Anyway, during those days, the sun beat me shege. My skin tone went really dark and it seemed to suck all the fat and oil right through my skin. I used to think that those days were in the past, I assumed that I had brighter days for me. I didn’t suffer all that when I returned for HND. Going to classes, I used bikes now because I could afford it. When in school, I used buses because they saved me the stress of walking and also protected me from the sun. So, I didn’t really get a repeat of what happened during my ND.
At least, that is until today. I’ve started my clearance doings and it’s already proving to be a hassle. First having to deal with standing in queues under the hot sun, and then moving from office to office to get one signature or one stamp, all led to the bureaucratic race that I had to run today. Sometimes, the distance between offices could be as long as a mile and it would be hard for me to get a bus that would take me there, prompting me to trek it.
So, I would walk, to and fro, under the hot sun. I did it so many times, that by the time it was noon, I was already delirious. I was just tired and the only thing I could think of was to go home and get the hell out of the glare of the sun. It was just punishment, that’s all. The sun was so harsh that it felt like tiny little pins were pricking me under my shirt. I was sweaty, and even the air was hot, making it all worse. The moment a staff told me to return tomorrow, I heaved a sigh of relief.
It was something that could still be done today, after all, there is still time. But I’m tired joor. I came home to recoup my strength, I’d return tomorrow when I have recovered. It’s days like me that make me miss the rainy season. You can work for hours during the rainy season and you won’t even get tired because of how cool and sweet the weather would be. Unfortunately, with the sun, it’s pure punishment.
But then, what can we do? You don’t change your environment, it changes you. I came home when I could no longer handle it, and I don’t think I’m stepping out again for the rest of today. I’ve had enough sunlight to last me for six weeks at this point… hehe.😂
Anyway, it was a good day because I got something major done. So, I guess that despite almost getting cooked outside, I still achieved something. That’s a good news for me.

Thank you for this.
At the end the day was not a waste for you. Going outside under the sunshine is terrible for me unless it's winter season.
As in ehn... I did get some things done. So I guess it's all good.
