Adding CO2 into the grow tent

in Canna-Curate27 days ago (edited)

Since my recent seedlings have not done the best, I have been thinking what was I doing previously to help them to such great success. Then I remembered my C02 making experiment. I was quite successful at raising the PPM's of carbon dioxide in the grow tent, by feeding yeast sugar. So I am adding it back to the routine.

High levels of C02 can really boost a plants ability to photosynthesize, and since my plants seem to be having trouble doing that right now. I figured giving more may help.

It smells like beer, pretty much how you make it. But I have no interest in drinking this.

Seems like the leaves are curling back less, so I hope this is a sign that the plants are restoring themselves. And hopefully using the added C02.

All I do to make it is mix yeast and sugar in hot water.

Measuring out 2 cups of sugar and 1 teaspoon of yeast will make a C02 producing mixture for a few days.

I may add more ingredients to this to help feed the yeast better, such as molasses. Other things I can do to help the yeast is to adjust the PH levels of the water down to around 4.6 which helps the yeast thrive.

Experimenting with different kinds of yeast is interesting. I bought some "turbo yeast" which is used to make alcohol. And have used bakers yeast which is used to for making breads and such. They have different smells but not really sure if one is better than the other for making C02.

Sugar levels can speed up how fast the yeast grows.. but it would seem one of the big issues is the yeast dies off as the alcohol level rises in the water and sugar mixture. This is a normal byproduct of the yeast making C02, but will kill it off eventually. That is where the brewers yeasts do better as they can handle a higher alcohol level before dying off. So depending on the cost compared to the bakers yeast it may be beneficial and last longer per batch.

Hope my cannabis seedlings like their added C02, should see some progress soon if so.

Yes, I could remember that Carbon dioxide helps in photosynthesis. Your experiments and experiences makes you a successful man

Yes, I do hope it helps.

I think, the information is very useful.😊 I hope you succeed in growing the plants. I hope your efforts will be paid off soon.😊

Thank you, glad to share what I am working on with the community.

You're welcome. Yeah.. and the information could revisit anytime. The good thing about here in the platform. 😊

Sure is.. going to come back to this post when I need to make more co2.. I put the recipe right there for me to use again.

Oh.. you made a double purpose too.😊

Have you thought of taking this experiment to the next level and doing a control then comparing the total dry weight of plant produced after say , 4 weeks. Can use a less "useful " plant that can be cut down for the test, like lettuce or mustard

For cannabis plants I am limited to just four by law. So it makes it hard to do tests by separating them. But yes I could do that with a less useful plant, though I would need to buy additional grow tents to trap the CO2 in. So it would be a costly experiment.

Maybe one day when I am allowed to grow more.

A very good way to overcome your cannabis seeds that are less than optimal in terms of growth, I am very sure that by adding co2 to the seeds of this cannabis plant there are many changes, the usual strong work of my friend, the way the process of making co2 is also not too complicated, of course I am happy to hear that these cannabis seeds are starting to change.

Hopefully it helps, we shall see long term. I have had good luck with it in the past so going back to what worked for me seems to be the way to go.

Yes, I agree, if indeed the solution has been successful in your attempt, you can try again, hopefully you will get optimal results my friend 🙏😊

Lol it would be fun to take weed with some levels of alcohol! Not an expert, but isn't it better to add more nitrogen based fertilizers ? I think that plants have a limit of CO2 absorption per time

I have been feeding them fish fertilizer which is high in nitrogen.

So they get both nutrients.

Great thinking!! Do you use the yeast after for anything - or just let it decompose?

Ah thanks, nope I just pour it out and start over.. some people think I should make alcohol. But I would rather just buy some whiskey..lol

Not sure how well it would work after it’s already been fermented- so yeah trash is probably the most “useful” option….

Waooo!! No dejas de impresionar bro, levadura también. Madre mía usas bastantes cosas para tus plantas 🪴 @solominer 😉

Nice man glad you liked it.. Yep it seems like it should help out the plants for sure.

It's super cool how you add CO2 to your grow space with this method. This is a really useful guide you laid out here for how to do it too. I might try this next grow and I'll refer to your method to try it out when I do.

Yep, glad to leave some good info here for others to use.

Nice, hope it helps.

This is a wounderful lesson I never knew co2 can be self made from simple ingredients yeast and sugar. Amazing

Yep, that is how alcohol is basically made.

Hmm fully noted

I love the way you keep experimenting instead of dwelling on losses for too long, you move on , that’s what a good famer does, looking for best ways to enhance the growth of plants.

Thanks, doing my best with what I got.

Wow, you are really cool. I really like it when I see the recipes you make that are about CO2

Yeah it is quite the interesting idea.

I used to use dry ice at work.. the plants loved it when I brought home the left over chunks..

Ah cool, I would need to compare the cost.. sugar and yeast is cheap.

Yeah it was free.. leftovers

Oh okay, we rarely get any kind of dry ice.. Maybe once a year from some frozen shipment.

Yeah I sold steak and chicken out of a meat truck.. we used it everyday

This is learning on the go! I hope your experimentations work out for the best.

Ah thank you, yes it should be interesting o see the results.

You could try maintaining a yeast culture using flour, I have done it in the past for bread making, I don't know what the co2 output would be.

Start the culture then once every few days take half out and add fresh flour, water and maybe a little sugar. Bake some bread with what you take out

Or just straight up start a brew 🤣 (mead? melamel etc)

Hmm okay I would need to look into that.

Hah I think I will skip the grow tent brew.

thanks for the feedback.

I hope your plant will grow fast and healthy.😊You are so innovative @solominer

thanks, hopefully they will.

i didnt know about this technique sounds good but the results wil say if it works or not :D

Yeah should be interesting to see if it really helps.
