Urea and Farming in India

Urea has been a key fertilizer for the cultivation of crops in India. So it is no surprise that India is one of the countries that use your the most but this year we have seen that the import of Urea fertilizer has low down up little after the introduction of Nano urea in the farmer market. It was really surprising to see that the total Urea is regulated by the government of India so a deficit of over 1 million tons of India. This makes almost a 12 to 15% drop in the consumption of urea in India.

The Government of India has also set a deadline for itself so that India can achieve self-sufficiency in the production of urea and when I say urea I actually mean Nano urea which is a liquid-concentrated form of urea that has been launched in India this year. The government has said that the use of nano urea will lead to better yield and less dependency on traditional fertilizers. This is being done so that we can make our Soil Fertility Recover as using Urea and other Fertilizers in Abundance in Soil has indeed made our Soil less Porous and less Fertile with Time.

How Effective is this new Nano Urea?

I work in the Agriculture sector and I have closely monitored the advent of Nano Urea in our State but I have to say that the way that Nano Urea was implemented in our state was just not good where Nano Urea was forcibly given to distributors as Tagging and they were forced to sell them. So most of the time the Distributors kept the Nano Urea in their Godown and only Sold them as Tagging once there was a heavy demand for Fertilizers. By doing so they were almost selling expired Nano Urea bottles to farmers and that never ended well for the farmers.

So I feel like Nano Urea is indeed good for us in the long run but I also feel that there is still time for Nano Urea to be a mainstream Fertiliser in our State and only time will tell how this will change the Agricultural Landscape in India.
