Remember Mochi?
I think he lives with us for three weeks now and we're all so excited to make friends with him that it feels like forever to get him closer to us. He's definitely making progress every day so we have to keep that in mind, but he's not as fast accepting us as Mojo did, unless we feed him delicious ham that is, lol. The way through this guy's heart is definitely through his stomach, lol. He's still not eating from our hand and prefers to snipe it from our hand instead, but I have to say not once did he try to use his nails on any of us. He just walks away, and goes back to his spot when we move, he never lashes out while we keep trying to pet him every day. He's a good little fella and SSOOOO soft! Unbelievable, to be honest.
How can I know?
Well, of course we had a few "lucky shots" trying to pet him while he didn't realize it until after a few strokes to then run away. Sometimes he doesn't let me pet his head but I can gently touch the paws for a minute without him running. But it was when I was allowed to pet his back when I found out he's sooooo soft. It makes me want to pet him even more haha.
A few lucky moments
I was able to trick him with the stick that has feathers on the end some days ago. I was touching his head with it which he often allows. That's our way of showing at least some affection, and sometimes he starts playing with it, he did so this time. He was biting in the stick and holding it at some point where I (at the same time) started touching the back of his head and he loved it. He let me scratch everywhere and even moved his head around like he was enjoying it fully and I realized he let me do it for a few minutes. I got all excited and then the funniest thing happened, it should have been recorded, haha. He looked up at me, at the stick he was holding and then the realisation came that it was my hand!! Oh the horror! I swear this moment was so funny that it still makes me laugh.
When we eat, he sits next to us
As he feels that it could be a golden opportunity to snatch some meat or chicken, and let's be honest, he's usually right. I love how adorable he stares at my daughter at the dinner table. But I admit that I was so happy when I was watching tv on the couch and suddenly he decided to lay there with me, and started grooming himself. He stayed there until my boyfriend wanted a spot on the couch too. That was probably a bit too crowded to his liking for now.
I hope we become great friends soon though..
Mojo
Unfortunately, no sign of Mojo anywhere and I kind of gave up hope for now. I will be extra alert in January when she's likely to have kittens if she's still alive (gosh I hate saying that) because I assume if she found a new home, they are offered somewhere online and we recognize her in the pictures if they share the mother cat too. I will return the trap we borrowed today and it feels like a (temporary) chapter closing, which sucks. Let's hope she will return at some point, with our without kittens..

So sorry to read you don't have Mojo back. In time when she's ready she'll show up when you least expect it. As for Mochi I'm happy to read you have another cat with you all. As the others have pointed out ( time) is needed and your affection will wane on him he'll get closer and closer. Can your daughter touch or pet him? This way he'll get use to both of you. As for your boyfriend it could be a male intrusion or something happened to him by a male who knows . I have missed your updates glad I caught up with you.
I must tell you that your post brought a few tears to my eyes 🥺 I love cats 😻 And I could feel every single thing you wrote. Step by step he will lose his fear, it takes them time. My cat is 12 years old with us and she is very nervous. So I do like you, I adapt to what she needs 🥰
If you lost your kitty, I am really sorry 😔 @thisismylife
Ah, cats are indeed awesome, I really don't want to live without at least one anymore. The plan was to have both Mojo and Mochi, but Mojo left in heat and while we tried catching her, she was gone overnight and never seen again :( tried to find her by connecting with people in the town in many ways but it seems she's either been taking in somewhere silently or worse.. I feel so sad about it as she was my true friend even though we had her for just a few months..
Mochi needs more time so it seems (both rescued from the street) and that's fine, we have to be patient :) It's hard some times though as you can imagine :)
He's doing better every day though, and very very playful when he's hunting his toys, so we have good entertainment!
I congratulate you for doing that rescue work 🌟 @thisismylife Cats really are a natural stress reliever. Watching them play and monkey around is beautiful. It's true, with patience you'll soon see him lying on your lap 😁
Sorry to hear about Mojo. One is never prepared for a friend to leave home. I hope he comes back 💟
