Training beyond differences: Building relationship

Hola ladies and gentlemen, it's been a week since my last post. I just got a little busy on school works and some events but allow me to share with you what happened this past few days.

Meeting new people and knowing their stories could give you a connection towards them. It feels good that you have an additional friend, sister or brother and of course they also became your family. In this past few days, I think I gain one big family.

Our organization, BCC DRRMO-REACT held a three days, two nights training at our campus together with the pioneers and the new batch that had the determination to pursue the training. We gone through a lot during our training but we also shared happy and sad memories that we'll forever treasure.

Being part of our organization is not
easy, you should have the courage, confidence, and presence of mind to face and pass the challenges that will be given to you, for you to be one of us. The motto of our organization is "Empowering people, saving lives." This is not easy as you think, saving someone's life is not a joke because one wrong move everything will not go as you planned.

On that three days and two nights of training, we are thought of different ways on how to respond in every emergencies. First day, it was last Saturday we are thought about the ambulance operation and patient handling. From lifting a patient and on how to put him or her on a stretcher and of course how to use a stretcher without hurting your patient. In the afternoon, we did the vital signs, bandaging, different kinds of lifting and the patient assessment.

Next day, Sunday, we just eat our breakfast while waiting for our guest to teach us about fire fighting and the use of equipments. We also try throwing the hose and what are they doing when there's really a fire. After that our instructor/guest gather as all and showered us using the fire truck and we really enjoyed it. That night the new batch was task to do a program for the pioneers. It was called as Rescue Night, we just enjoyed that night even though it's raining really hard. We eat, dance, sing, laugh and that night is also their acceptance ceremony. For me this is the best moment that happened during our training.

Last day of training we found out that the classes will be suspended the next day because of the bad weather. While we are discussing together with our head adviser he told us that some of us need to be deployed to rescue families that was trapped because of flood. Fourteen of us was deployed that day and the rest of us continue to wait for our next guest who will teach us what to do if there will be a vehicle accident. That day was very productive but also a bit sad because that's our last day together. We also have the chance to talk about each other's lives and be more open to share it with everyone.

That experience was really memorable for each of us. We're very thankful to all the guest that shared their knowledge to us and on how to do things right for the first time. We thank God for empowering us to overcome such difficulties. In spite of the bad weather, we are grateful to have our instructors who generously taught us.
