A Message From Above?

I had an interesting experience tonight that I wanted to share....Not sure much for the purpose of 'preaching' but more for reflection.

I'm on the journey of sanctification. A Christian walk is plenty of ups and downs, but the promise is, that God never starts a work in you that He will stop. So every day, we die to self, we may sin, but we repent, turn from it and try to live by His example.

I have to admit. I struggle a lot. Death to self and bearing our own crosses is an uphill battle, and I find myself taking two steps back for every step I think I'm making. Thankfully, we are not saved by works. And the work was done on the cross. However, if you love Him, you keep His commandments. So every day, I try to do His will.

Tonight the flesh won.

I ended up going to the movies this evening which may not seem like a big deal for some, but for me...I know what Hollywood represents. There is very little good that comes out of that industry and this verse repeats in my mind....

Is a movie about ghosts and goblins.....Pure? Lovely? Just?

Look I'm not the judge, and if some people find joy in that, that's find. God knows I had decades of my life watching every movie you could imagine. But there was something eating at me when I was sitting in the theatre.

And that verse is a big deal to me, I have it actually front and center on my computer screen so that I re-read it every day...

So back to the story....I'm in the theatre and about half way through the film, the projector literally died. The staff from the theatre popped into the theatre and tried to get the projector to work but to no avail. The poor teenage girl working that night had to stand in front of everyone and announce that they would have to shut things down. The movie would not be played this evening....

Grunts and sighs filled the room. But generally people were understanding. The theatre honored everyone with a free ticket to a show tomorrow and while everyone was filing out, I was sitting there...In thought.

And guess what I was thinking about....

Philippians 4:8

Was that a kick in the butt from God to me personally?

Was it Him reminding me that I need to be focusing on Him. And not worried about the ghosts and goblins being shown on the screen?

Maybe.

Maybe it was just bad luck for everyone tonight at the movies...But it did make me question where my heart was tonight.

Anywho, again this isn't me preaching...This is me thinking out loud, and reflecting on the evening.

I tend to watch movies and TV for the story. It's the same basic stories. Today it may be a goblin or vampire. But at their core, there are the seven basic plots. And they often have three parts, ending with the big boss fight at the end. The characters are just window dressings. The good movies often have some redeeming virtue such as courage. Antiheros will often do the right thing for the wrong reasons. Movies will often use vice to contrast with virtues.

Having said that, there is plenty of lazy writing in entertainment as well. And reality TV often lacks any virtue as there is no story. I find these productions unsatisfying. It can be titillating, but ultimately without redemption.

There are several movies about goblins in my country, I have never watched any of them as I don't believe their existence.

It's clear you didn't want to be there.

Even though there are so many ups and downs, God will never leave us
God is always here to keep us going

Yep, it was probably God.

Divine intervention :)

The incident at the movies seems like a thought-provoking moment for you.
It's always good to take a step back and reflect on where our heart truly lies.
