Happy Tuesday Hivers!
Unlike my usual Christmas celebration, I spent Christmas with my family. Although we were not complete as some of my siblings were away from home, at least I was able to spend Christmas with my father. We didn't have a lavish Christmas celebration. Since there were only five of us at home, we simply prepared a simple meal.
In the Philippines, most houses have fruit or buko salad during Christmas. I don't know when that started, but from what I can remember, people usually prepare salad because it is easy to make and doesn't require cooking.
Since my sister-in-law and I agreed to make buko salad, as we have many coconuts at home, my brother immediately harvested some as they arrived. The funny thing was, we didn't have a coconut scraper, so we just used a spoon to scrape the coconut. Since it didn't look decent, we cut it into pieces using a knife after scraping.
After helping my family with the food preparation, I headed to the mall because I wanted to buy a Christmas gift for myself. It was very tempting, as most of the items were on sale. I checked some dresses, but do you know what? I ended up not buying anything. What I had in mind was that I still have clothes, and those items I checked were not essential. I decided to save the money instead.
In the evening, I attended the Mass before welcoming Christmas. This is what I usually do. I went to the church very early so I could choose the front seats. I prefer to attend the Mass in front as there are fewer distractions. The Catholic churches were well-decorated with Christmas decorations, and the spirit of Christmas was truly felt.
I immediately headed back home after the Mass. My family and I ate together the food we had prepared. We drank wine after eating and while waiting for 12 AM. It was just a simple celebration, but celebrating Christmas with the family actually brings joy to everyone's heart. We don't need a lavish celebration. Spending our Christmas with our loved ones and having a simple meal is already enough.
How about you? How did you celebrate Christmas?
