It's been two months since I did my last LUT Garden Report. That was before I went to Croatia for Hivefest, then I went away in October again and with winter coming, most of my plants were starting to die. The exception being some of my flowers.
Hotlips
The two hotlips have grown very bushy and at this rate they're going to squash my lavender next year. I didn't realise they'd grow so much otherwise I would have planted them some where else. Next year I'll have to decide which plant I need to move.
Gladiolus
Another plant that surprised me is the gladiolus. I planted 10 bulbs in summer, they should actually be planted in spring, so I wasn't expecting much from them. Nearly all the bulbs blossomed but the leaves split and they all looked very sad. I think the bulb quality were not good as I bought then at the end of the season. Anyway, when I came back from holiday, one plant started to flower! It was so pretty, and I was over the moon, especially since this was my mum's favourite flower. Next spring I'm going to get some better quality bulbs and plant them in memory of my mum.
Pumpkin
The final plant in my garden to sucumb to the weather was my pumpkin. In the past month it's been growing very well, and even produced many baby pumpkins which I had planned to
enter to the Hive Pumpkin World Championship organised by @der-prophet. You can see the pumpkin plant here, from a few days ago.
Then we had a cold blast and our first snow earlier this week. It's very early for our area and we don't snow that often as we're by the sea. We didn't have much snow that day, it didn't even settle in the ground, but it was cold enough to kill the pumpkin overnight.
I managed to salvage 4 baby pumpkins but I don't think I'm going to get any prizes for them 😄
Prepping for winter
All the other potted plants seems to be hanging in there, including my little fig tree. I will need to get some mulch next week to keep them warm over the winter. We have a storm and bad weather coming this weekend, I hope they will make it through that first.
This will be my last LUT Garden Report for 2024. This year has been a good learning year for me in my new garden. Hopefully next year I will be a little more successful.
Hello beautiful photos excellent story, I wanted to ask a question.
I have wanted to participate in this community, but I saw that one of the rules is to publish in English, I have some videos but I speak Spanish, will it be possible to publish putting subtitles in English?
The second question is which platform is allowed for the videos, since 3speak is not loading the videos.
Thanks, if you don't know the answer I would be grateful if you could recommend me a user who can guide me. Thanks
If the requirement is English, definitely add subtitles to your video, and also write your post in bilingual. Don't just upload a video with no accompanying text. Ultimately, you'll have to check with the community moderaters as each community has their own rules.
This will be the same as what you currently do for your music posts. However, I would recommend you not to tag people in your post. It is bad manners and very annoying to be tagged all the time, most people don't like it. Imagine if someone walked past your house every morning and shouted your name then walked away. Tagging a person serves very little purpose, if they want to support you, they would have followed you and your post will come up on their feed. Hope this helps
Hola muchas gracias, por tu orientación siempre se aprende algo más un abrazo.
Hello, thank you very much for your guidance, you always learn something more.
The pumpkins. 🤐 Why did you take them off the plant? They are not done yet! OMG... well, unless they're one of those magic ones, harvested by the tiny fairies... anything can happen.
I am sorry that the other plantings were not achieved, but I see that your garden has brought you great happiness. Special flowers with great meaning.
Keep trying.
The pumpkin plant died from the cold blitz so the babies weren't going to live anyway. Some of the others had already died ☹️
I'm definitely going to continue next year, and will start to plan soon for next season!!!
I know... I was just joking with you.
Cheers!
Looking good! That Glad is beautiful! I wish I had more of a green thumb!
I go for low maintenance plants because I'm quite a killer in the garden as well! Apparently flowers from bulbs are easy to grow, I read you just plant them in the ground around now and they will bloom in spring.
That sounds like my speed for sure!
As for the "Size" category, they are just right for a key ring 🙂
But if there is a "Cute" category, they are sure to win 😻
ha ha!!! A cute category!! that would be awesome,I might stand a chance 😃
You have a beautiful garden, this is the first time I agree with your reports and I enjoyed it very much. I'm sorry about the pumpkins, but for someone who doesn't have a garden I think it's a great achievement and a beauty 😍 The experience will make you close next year in style, you'll see...
Good luck with that decision between lavender and Hotlips, I do not know which is more delicate, but as you give so much love to all sure everything will be fine, happy weekend 🙏
This is the first year I've tried to grow things properly in my garden, unfortunately with not a lot of success as the slugs ate most of my produce. Hopefully next year will be better
Maybe a prize for cute little pumpkins? 😉
Your Gladiolus is so beautiful, my mom also likes it but doesn't have any in the garden anymore. It was in the grandmother's house where they used to plant them.
Nooo, bad weather and storm for the weekend? 😒
I'm thinking of planting more gladiolus next year, better quality bulbs so they come back each year. If they all flower, it will be quite a sight.
We're forecast a lot of rain and some flooding this weekend. We have lots of farmland around here, and in the past years it can get quite bad, but not as bad as what Spain has experienced recently. Hopefully all is well your end
You really have a very nice, tidy garden. I'm a little jealous 😉
Please submit your baby pumpkins anyway. There is also a third category for the oddity pumpkins.
I thought the contest had ended? Let me check it out. Thanks for dropping by
i have extended the challenge until the 31st of december. because a participant in the southern hemisphere is taking part in the challenge. so he still has enough time this month to take part in the challenge
I love the hotlips Salvia, they just thrive so well, I have a couple of colours the red and a purple, next year I am adding apricot hot lips to the border, missed out on getting them this year.
Those pumpkins wont win any prizes LOl LOL LOL
Hey!! My pumpkins are cute!!!!
I didn't realise there were apricot hotlips as well? Gonna check them out now
LOL
The only place I have seen them was in a "Blue Diamond" garden centre.
Poor pumpkin :( I guess it is best to plant them before winter.
