Christmas can sometimes be inevitably busy, and I didn’t think I’d have time to crochet an angel for my tree top. But after all the rush yesterday, I decided to sit down and give it a try.
No fuss—just something simple and symbolic. I thought I’d make a minimalist crochet angel figure and see how it turned out.
I used this acrylic yarn with silver bits—and a 3.5 mm hook. I am sharing my pattern, which is ideal for beginners to enjoy this Christmas holiday.
Materials 👼
Crochet hook (size appropriate for your chosen yarn)
White or cream yarn (cotton or acrylic)
Gold or silver thread for embellishments (optional) or wire.
Stuffing for the head (polyfill)
Scissors
Yarn needle
Abbreviations (US Terms)
ch: Chain
sc: Single crochet
dc: Double crochet
sl st: Slip stitch
st(s): Stitch(es)
inc: Increase (2 sc in one stitch)
dec: Decrease (sc two stitches together)
Pattern
Head 👼

Round 2: inc in each stitch. (12 sts)
Round 3: (1 sc, inc) repeat around. (18 sts)
Rounds 4-6: sc in each stitch. (18 sts)
Round 7: (1 sc, dec) repeat around. (12 sts)
Stuff the head firmly.
Round 8: (dec) around. (6 sts)
Fasten off, do not cut.
Slide stitch up to position to yarn to the make the body.
Round 1: 6 sc around. (6 sts) - around the bottom of the head.
Round 2: (1 sc, inc) repeat around. (9 sts)
Round 3: (2 sc, inc) repeat around. (12 sts)
Round 4: (3 sc, inc) repeat around. (15 sts)
Continue increasing until the body is wide enough to create a base for the angel’s long dress (about 30-36 sts, depending on your desired size).
Once the base is the desired size, fasten off, do not cut and carry on to make the dress.
Dress Skirt 👼
Round 1: dc in each stitch around. Join with a sl st. (36 sts or your base number)
Round 2: (1 dc, ch 1, skip 1 st) repeat around. Join with sl st.
Round 3: (1 dc in ch-1 space, ch 2) repeat around. Join with sl st.
Continue this pattern, adding extra chains in each round (e.g., ch 3, ch 4) to flare out the skirt.
Stop when the skirt reaches the desired length.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Wings 👼
Ch 10, turn.
Row 1: sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and across. (9 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. inc in the first st, sc across, inc in the last st. (11 sts)
Row 3: Repeat Row 2. (13 sts)
Fasten off and make a second wing.
Attach wings to the back of the angel with a yarn needle.
Halo 👼
A gold or silver wire twisted and formed into the halo, leaving the ends to use like a pin to secure at the back of the head,
Attach the halo to the top of the head.
A simple angel has done!
If you prefer, you can embellish the dress with pearls and flowers or even add embroidery details to make it your own.
Personally, I love keeping it simple—it really highlights the angel’s ethereal and universal charm without needing facial features or hands.
I placed it on top of my spruce Christmas tree.
A last-minute project, yet so meaningful, and it adds such a lovely festive touch!
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas!
